Will redahirts be considered rostered wrestlers? '25-'26 season could be painful. Many will need to cut 20+ wrestlers from teams in addition to the number of new recruits brought in. Many of the class of '24 and '25 may have their offers recinded due to the roster caps. Back up upperclassmen could be a thing of the past. Club teams may get a big boost from Jr's and Srs on campus finishing degrees who love the sport but are cut to reach roster limits. Maybe club teams could become JV squads. Stash some wrestlers on a club squad until they develop or a need arises on varsity. Will "practice squad" members be allowed? Could wrestlers be pulled up and added to the roster from club teams or "practice squads" if wrestlers get injured or quit/dismissed?

I beg to differ. Many schools are struggling maintain or grow enrollment or even maintain current levels. Ask around, you may be surprised.

I am concerned for non P5 wrestling. They will not increase the number of schollys, in fact, they may lose some. As it stands now schools can give wrestling 9.9 schollys with a 40-50 man roster. Meaning 30-40 non Scholly wrestlers, bringing in more students to the school. Limit the roster to 30 it cuts tuition collected by the schools making wrestling less attractive. Football increases by 20 schollys, baseball increases dramatically, and must be made up by other men's sports losing schollys. I feel like P5 schools will put a lot more distance between them and non P5 schools. Yeah, the big dogs will benefit, but at what cost? Who will they wrestle? They are currently well ahead of most all the others and it could become much more distance between them and the have nots. Why would they want to compete against programs their 3rd string could crush? What would be the benefit? Why bother with a weighin when the comp could not touch them with a ten foot pole?

I think roster caps could have a negative effect on wrestling being an ongoing sport. Yes, the big time programs would not be able to hoard enormous amount of talent with unlimited scholarships, BUT the smaller schools who currently have 30-40 man rosters would be hurt finacially. If these smaller schools are currently giving 8-10 scholarship it means 25 rostered wrestlers are NOT. Would they be students at that school if it were not for wrestling? Probably not. Also remember wrestling has the highest number of 1st generation college students.

I think a few college wrestling programs are revenue producing. Not much, but some. What do we do with those programs? Several examples across multiple sports. A few of the elite programs are revenue positive, thus pro in your example, while a vast majority are revenue negative. What would be different than the current situation?

Coaching jobs could be a premium soon. With the number of D1 teams forecasted to dramatically shrink due to college football needing all the money to pay players, it may advantageous for coaches to find stable programs and hang on to their position. 5 years from now there may only be college wrestling at 40 or so schools at the D1 level with D1 pay. Roster limits may also spread to coaching limits. You know player salaries will only esculate with no salary cap for paying players every school will be looking for every dollar they can to pay that top recruit or top transfer. The back pay will cause incredible pain at the lower level D1 programs that have D1 football. Yes, PSU, Iowa, tOSU and those of that ilk have enormous athletic budgets, but what about teams like Buffaloe, CMich, WVa, Wyoming (just schools I thought may not have super large budgets)? The back pay could cause a nightmare to try to back pay and pay the current players. So coaches should be consider stability when looking to move on with their careers.

My understanding of what Trump said is getting captured does not make you a hero. What does "hero" mean to you? If you do not change, you will be left behind. In this portal world, top teams do and should recruit from other college teams FIRST. A proven college wrestler is worth more than taking a chance on high school wrestler. A small handful of hs guys are sure fire outstanding college wrestlers, but a returning AA level at a "lesser" program has a high degree certainty.

Scott will hopefully find a good niche in the sport and stay. Be it a D1 school or a club coach. Running a top level club can be very lucrative too. Wrestling is better with Coleman Scott in it.

Should we let wrestlestat know to quit ranking all of the teams and just stick to the top 10? No more conference rankings, only top 2 or 3? If having a defacto worst to first ranking is so terrible, there so many rankings that include the bottom teams. In football, even the liberal rag ESPN has a "bottom 10" teams with updates of how bad they got crushed the previous week. We really need to get to the point where wrestling is mentally strong enough being called worst is inspiration and not a source of hurt feelings.

My concern is football and basketball carry the athletic budgets. A football player could sue saying they earned the money and nobody has the right to take one penny from them and use it for anything not football/basketball related. The argument will be be they earned it and it should stay with them. Every penny. Where would the other 30 sports get the funding?
