I have a theory. You know how Trent Hillger has those luscious locks? It's well-known in various circles that Thor uses only the finest Scandinavian hair conditioner products. Well rumor has it that one day Gilman grew a little too jealous, what with his receding hair line, and decided he wanted to cut a corner on the Just For Men club. So he joined PSU on the trip to the Wiscy dual, snuck into the locker room, and stole all the bottles of Hillger's conditioner. He liked the initial results but was constantly craving more and eventually he became addicted like Joe Buck was addicted to hair plugs. And because he still struggles with his conditioner addiction to this very day, Gilman is often seen jonesing during prematch warmups but then disappears to the back. A few minutes later he re-emerges with his body covered head-to-toe in oily conditioner-y grease... and silky smooth hair. He should have just owned the male pattern baldness like his mentally tougher opponent Zane Richards.

Freestyle Pantaleo today is a very different beast than 2018 folk Pantaleo. Still can't believe he won't be wrestling this weekend.

It’s not that par terre is ignored so much as it is not the primary instrument of scoring anymore. In freestyle if you’re being a bum they give the opponent a point because defending in par terre, globally, is easier (read: not easy, just easier) whereas in greco it is a destructive difference maker. Just a difference of styles and rule sets. eg greco Passivity? Good luck not getting teched. It’s going to hurt at best and you’re going for a ride at worst. FS lace techs happen, but they don’t start in PT as punishment anymore for a reason. Less time is spent in par terre in FS because it is only a fragment of each match typically. Also, freestyle requires more subtleties such as defending an entire body and “do I give up one or two or four?” Whereas high level greco is decided by multiples of ones and the occasional YouTube highlight which is much more rare than folks think. And yes, greco specialists have almost always had better gutwrenches. But they can’t defend a lace to save their life in the same vein. So tomato, tomahto, it’s a wash and best to appreciate each style. No matter what at least we can all agree that anything better than ball grabs and clinches, right?

Doing what they do is impressive for anyone period. But throw in the tall barriers of entry being an Ivy League program (and RTC) takes it to a whole ’nother level. Koll started something great and Grey is continuing that tradition. Big kudos to Big Red.
