  1. Why don't you want Richards? He beat the best and it wasn't like they were Yianni "who scored what" type of matches. They were very handily decisive. Is your concern that "Gilman would have done better at worlds?" Because if he couldn't get past domestic competition who beat the crap out of him 2 matches in a row when he had months to prepare, then what would your worlds expectations have been?
  2. If you want someone who can light up the scoreboard in a hurry then Lee is your guy If you want someone proven who can create his own offense but has come up just short against the best in the world (silver in 18, barely missed merkle against Uguev in olympics) then Gilman is your guy If you want the dude who beat Suriano and Gilman to win the most recent spot along with a number of other quality international victories then Richards is your guy If you want high octane reigning world champ but comes with the price of a heavy cut then Vito is your guy If you want to cheer for Daton Fix then that's great. I guess I will root for him too if he wins the 57 spot again
  3. First time I have ever seen Suriano get a Metcalf comparison. One shoots, shoots, shoves, and shoots some more until his opponent would be broken the next match. The other might take one shot the entire match if his opponent gets close enough to the edge. That said, Suriano is quality and finished higher than Gilman to win a senior rankings tournament in an olympic year (Jan '21 at Henri Deglane). Many picked him to win the olympic spot a few months later until he tested positive for covid.
  4. You know who else lost twice his freshman year? Kyle Dake, Logan Steiber, and Carter Starocci.
  5. How common is it outside of PSU, Iowa, Michigan, or tOSU? Maybe Cornell and OkSt but Yianni and Fix are exceptions rather than rules given their accolades (and one could argue that Fix hasn't earned it if you disregard freestyle). The one thing I have learned about NIL is that even though wrestling finally has a bag man, it's still very hush hush. Transparency is necessary for wrestlers, families, coaches, journalists, and fans.
  6. Okay so Suriano gets second at the US Open last season and doesn't get seeded. DeSanto gets 2nd at US Open and 4th overall at Final X last season at 61, bumps up a weight and gets third at Farrell gets seeded 6 Now let's look at 97: Jacob Warner just took 2nd at Farrell gets seeded 4th. Cassioppi has never made this weight and gets the 3 seed. *ETA he went 0-1 at senior Last Chance last year at 125. How? Why? Is it the previous U23 title? Because if so then what about the recent international success of Suriano, DeSanto, Gross at the superior senior level and why don't their seeds correlate? It doesn't matter at the senior level because you either show up or you don't but this place is my soapbox and I'm not here for it.
  7. Anecdotal evidence is for casuals. Statistical analysis with an emphasis on recency bias slicers given the new nature of NCAA sports is where it's really at.
  8. I feel like they do better but it's not universal
  9. Austin O'Connor did alright his 6th year Hayden Hidlay did okay and he even bumped two weights for his sixth year
  10. When he wants to be a blue collar everyman he drives his Chevrolegs. When he is hitting a Saturday night at all the top spots in Iowa City he has been spotted showing off the Lamborfeeties.
  11. I'm just saying it right now and I don't care about the 4 timers. If Gomez/Lovett is the title match it needs to open the championship round of NCAAs. That match will be freakin electric and will get the crowd buzzing.
  12. No shit!
  13. “The Only Moral Abortion is My Abortion: When the Anti-Choice Choose” by Joyce Arthur
  14. Lilledahl (17) , Pierson Manville (19), and Kannon Webster (23) all ranked in the top 23 seems a wee bit absurd. Mason Parris is ranked 22nd while Steveson is 9 and Gwiz is 13. ETA and Gilman is 5th despite never showing up and not making the world team. Make it make sense USAW...
  15. Random 65kg thoughts- I don't think Pantaleo will have a gas tank down at 65. And that is the IOC's fault not his. It's a shame really. Gross should qualify but I wonder if he crash cuts down to 57 if he doesn't. He just doesn't pass the eye test for a legit 65kg body which, again, is the IOCs fault and not his. I want to see McKenna/DeSanto very bad. I could see it as a very calculated technical thrashing finished in 4 minutes or a huge upset and neither result would surprise me.
  16. Ugh not everything revolves around how cool Illinois wrestling is
  17. For the masses only paying attention to folkstyle: Dr. Valencia is Jane Valencia, MD. Not Anthony (or Zahid, who wrestles for USA) Valencia. Her story is fascinating and puts us rubes to shame. I really thought about having some fun with this one but it would get so out of hand so quick that it would not be registered as the usual shtick methinks. So giving the doc her deserved props.
  18. This is the internet. How dare you engage in civil discourse and provide transparency of an inability to determine a hypothetical from nearly 60 years ago. For shame! You do it like this: Seven days a week and twice on Sunday. Maybe three times. He was transcendent.
  19. Simons for sure. 4x NAIA (4x OW)/3x NCAA (2x OW), 2x olympian including once during enrollment. So I get to pick only 4? Well then Uetake, Hodge, and Simons are occupying three of those spots on this hypothetical Mt. Rushmore.
  20. I prefer gardening knee pads with velcro straps. That way after I get taken down and crawl out out of bounds to put my hand on the floor outside the mat I can maximize my regrouping time. Tie one shoe, then the other. Pull up my each of my socks. Pull up my knee pads then adjust the velcro. That's an easy 60 seconds of lung time. If I'm still tired then I stay on the mat and wave to the trainer to start the injury clock + bring me a sip of water.
  21. I don’t really ever remember anyone calling Trenge dirty or acting like a heel except when he got his eyes poked?
  22. Ahh yes the IOC, known bastion of morality in the corrupt world of global sports.
  23. NFL minimum rookie salary is $750k so it would have to be a heck of an NIL deal
  24. He's a nose tackle. He's not cutting down to 285 unless he doesn't feel there is NFL potential so he is going to give wrestling a last hurrah. But this is awesome 1) for the Nebraska room 2) for his sizzle reel because "trains with one of the top wrestling teams in the country in the offseason" is buzzworthy. Coaches love to spout "wrestling teaches footwork and leverage and the media eats it up. 3) for the sport of wrestling by getting our name out there
  25. The delta of talent at other conferences tends to sort itself out on the mat throughout the season. This would mathematically open more spots for individuals outside of B1G which grows opportunities for our sport from a team growth model which theoretically increases fanbase and viewership. Diversity = Inclusion essentially. I mean, I’m trying my darndest here! While the B1G is the premiere conference, this model would intentionally devalue its athletes and only a handful per weight would qualify for this hypothetical last chance. More SIU-E and Kent State 3rd place at conference, less Michigan 9th at B1Gs.
