  10. I think you wouldn't even have to sign up. Just put on a red shirt and sit with the Cornell extras. There must be 60 kids on the team, I don't think anybody would notice a couple more.
  11. You honestly think I spent more time picking that patent off the mantle, laying it on the bed, taking a sheet of paper out of the copier and making 2 cuts and a notch on it, than you did looking up my "gem"? Before I drew on a computer, I spent many hours drawing, etc with a pencil and paper. You're seriously underestimating the physical cut and paste skills of a 70 year old engineer. That was simply to show that not all of us (perceived) Leftists are touchy/feely Psych majors. Before you pounce on it, Yes, that patent is on the mantle in the bedroom next to one of my wife's and one we have together. She's actually the brains in the family. The rest are in a box somewhere, that would take some digging. For $50 each, I'll dig them out, photograph them, and hold up any finger you want. First one was free. Speaking of my "gem", I'm guessing you thought I was referring only to myself or my "Leftist" buddies when I said "this board is a very good place to start/continue" (conversing with smart people). I've met, agreed with, disagreed with, argued with, laughed at, shook my head at, very smart people of all political persuasions on here. And many whose political persuasion I have no clue about. That's simply because their posts are not the constant litany of "They're after us", "Did you see what they're trying to do to us now", etc that come from a few people on here. Do yourself a favor and check how many of the "Non Wrestling Topics" fit the agenda (I know you guys love that word) of which end of the political spectrum. Feel free to share the count with me. With my "gem", I was only saying don't spend your time conversing with people whose greatest accomplishment in life is remembering the channel number for Fox News. I don't know if you remember the switch to the new forum. Before, when the old one was going away and after the switch, I said many times how I thought there were many smart people on here. I remember using the phrase "in comparison to other social media, FB, etc". Amazingly, I made no reference to political position. "However thinking you're smarter than everyone, does seem to be a theme with you and others here". The Conservatives go to move. Kinda like ADS and the firemans carry. Wow, I just realized, there may be something we agree on after all.
  12. Since you decided to make it personal: "self proclaimed" thinker? Gee, I have two pieces of paper from Cornell, one from UofC, and 14 from the USPTO that confirm my thought process. Et tu?
  13. I think there's a quote that explains the existence of this thread. "To a man with a hammer, everything looks like a nail" -Abraham Maslow I think I also might have accidentally stumbled on one of them there phallic symbols.
  14. I understand and agree. That makes sense. For a while, my wife and I lived next to a guy who worked for the railroad for 42 years. He did very well with his retirement being separate from SS. Much better than if he would have been in SS. If the 7-1/2, 7-1/2 contribution is mandatory and automatic, I agree. If it's a choice between trusting a bunch of crooked politicians or a bunch of crooked bankers and insurance companies, the bankers and insurance companies win by a little. I know nothing of Marty Rubin. I've read a couple of Thomas Sowell's books. An amazing guy with an amazing perspective. Reagan, I have absolutely no use for. Much of the rape and plunder of the middle class by the .01% has been a result of Reagan's Trickle Down BS. How the middle class keeps falling for that is beyond me. It's demonstrably NOT worked for anybody but the super rich for 40+ years.
  15. While I can't disagree with the logic, I have to say a couple of things. The Feds have already taken a LOT of my money for 42 years, so I think I have a right to get a small part of it back. I'll agree, I've yet to see anything the government does that I'd call efficient. However, I can't see having 15% of the money I've made (7.5% from me, 7.5% from whomever I was working for) taken for SS and Medicare, and expecting nothing in return. Expecting everybody to save for their later years seems to be realistic. However there are a couple of problems with that. Because of the value that corporate America places on their lower level workers, they have almost no possibility of saving much of anything. A little story... When our kids were small, for a while my wife and I lived in a small town outside State College, Pa. There was an elderly couple that we got to know because we used to walk by their house with our kids. They had kind of a small house but it was nice and said they had 2 grown children. He had been a salesman at Sears and she hadn't worked. Imagine today trying to raise 2 kids, own a house, and save for retirement on a salesman at Sears salary. Oh, I forgot Sears doesn't exist anymore. It's been raped and plundered by a couple of CEOs and a few Holding Companies. Another story about expecting people to plan for much of anything... When my wife and I lived outside Pittsburgh, I used to drive a stretch of 4 lane road with traffic lights. You were rewarded for going the speed limit, 40mph, by catching pretty much all green lights and penalized for speeding by having to stop for red lights. Unfortunately, that concept was lost on what seemed like 90% of the drivers on the road. Their goal seemed to be getting to the next (red) light as soon as possible and getting stopped. I used to think to myself... Isaac Newton went out one night, looked up at the stars and moon, repeated it the next night, and the next...and from that deduced the movements of the heavens and earth. And, after driving this stretch of road twice a day for ten years these people still haven't figured out the simple pattern of these lights. And apparently, Newton and these people were the same species. (Not exactly true about Newton, he knew more than that, but it made my point.) When thinking about privatizing/eliminating Social Security, you have to remember many people can't plan 20 seconds ahead, let alone plan for their retirement. "I sit on a man's back, choking him and making him carry me, and yet assure myself and others that I am very sorry for him and wish to ease his lot by all possible means - except by getting off his back." Lev Tolstoy

  17. 1)Brooks 2)Lee 3)Bravo-Young 4)Yianni I'm moving Brooks up after what he did to Soldano Fri night. Looks like Cael's been working with him on the ankle pick.
  18. I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say the second one is the one after the first one.
  19. I'm still all in on Circuit City and Radio Shack.
  20. I think some people are missing the "PSU outperforms at NCAAs" factor. There are at least a couple guys that could be moved up a notch or two due to this. I think Jimmy's pretty close except Brooks or Dean could very well win. Time will tell.
  21. I guess the entire area was underwater X years ago. (X >> 6000) Then the area heaved up and during the ice age glaciers cut out everything you see except for the tops of the hills. When you're at the top it's 1900 ft above sea level and 1300 ft above the Susquehanna River West Branch below. When you look out from the top all the hills are the same height and flat on the top. This is toward the north part of the Allegheny Plateau. About 70-80 miles north of here in Gold, PA is what's called the Eastern Watershed. Water from here goes North to the St Lawrence River, West to the Mississippi, and SW to the Chesapeake. Lots of logging history, etc. If you ever go there, I can give you a lot of pointers aboutthe surrounding areas. We currently live about 2.5 hours NE of HynerView.
