  1. You are counting Cornell as Ivy? OK
  2. It was enormously unfair that so many 5th year guys got to stay around and seems to have been most unfair at HWT. It was an insane idea from NCAA - I assume for other revenue sports but never looked at the details.
  3. Had not thought of it before but Taylor may be top dog at Hwt next year. How big is Bastida these days? Some guys get bigger when nobody is looking.
  4. This is the kind of analysis and post that makes this forum the best - very good points I had not put together in this way.
  5. Debatable! He's a little light/small for the weight and seems like 184 might be a better weight all other things being equal. But competition is thinner at 197 and an NCAA title may be more likely there, IMHO.
  6. If he has the grades/academic credentials and if the NIL makes sense in view of the school tuition costs. Why transfer to a program where the lineup fit is meh? Thinking the Ivies have a more welcoming lineup and very good programs, culture, and opportunities. A lot of NY's best wrestlers have suceeded at high levels from Ivy programs - you can look it up!
  7. Really makes no sense if they lose Ryder, Duke, Henckel as part of the fallout
  8. I heard they might close some of these branch campuses.
  9. Sure - we used to have that problem in PA. Seems like Penn State and a few others have reversed the flow of wrestle talent drain. Of course, Basset got away on a well worn path.
  10. Stood out at the classic - seems ready to compete at a very high level. Is there room in the line-up?
  11. Philly NCAA crowd might be one of the least MAGAlicious compared to other NCAA tourney venues.
  12. Some may be happy with the Cassar path - lost close battle for starting role, gets the call in the big dula meet against Ohio State and beats the #1 as the PSU backup and then goes up and beats an all-timer for NCAA title. Kasak and Davis have their own (unfinished stories, where they both found their way into the lineup and have had sucess despite incredible depth at their weights.
  13. I assume NIL is all taxable income - so after state and federal income tax (might also be local county income tax) and after paying college costs, this is not any kind of huge windfall.
  14. I presume he would get in state tuition at PSU - but not sure at Ok State and Michigan. Is tuition getting covered as part of the new settlement and 30 roster limit? I doubt it but do not know.
  15. If I can only have one, would take folkstyle. Freestyle is fun and I admire the achievements, but not for me the primary goal fo thye sport. Have not studied it, but I would guess that folkstyle wrestling dwarfs freestyle in the U.S. and our collegiate wrestling is so much fun that even Ono wants in. We should ditch greco at the olympics - what a huge bore. Worth it to add back 3 weights in freestyle.
  16. Whole idea of NIL is to be disruptive and reset the market dyanmics in favor of allowing economic opportunities for athletes. Opportunities were too long denied them by NCAA and schools that kept the $$ and had preposterous anti-competitive rules. Good that all programs and supporters should feel vulnerable to PSU as it will make them at least considering how to compete.
  17. No idea what the plan is but Vega looked like purede dynamite at the classic yesterday. Might be an early big impact wrestler.
  18. Not sure how clear the different levels are for Barr, Ryder, and Welsh at this point. I guess we will see.
  19. what does this look like - he brings a bat?
  20. Many of the best wrestlers never to win an NCAA title are the likely starters for PSU next year (other than HWT and if they are in the lineup, MM and Haines).
  21. Outstanding - a nice musical interlude as we ease into the offseason.
  22. 100% - this was not the result of NCAA decisions. But the old way (which did not bring parity) was wildly unfair to athletes. May take a while for NCAA, teams, and programs to figure out how to navigate. Of course, the real $$ is in football and hoops and not in wrestling and we are at most the tail of the football/hoops NIL dog.
  23. Seroulsy doubt that AD's have the same rabid passion for details of AA placers and team standings. A lot of other concerns and benchmarks for success about the program and its health and leadership. I do not root for this program and am not particularly a fan of Ryan, but do not see that he must go. He's had a lot of success and its a tough sport with ups and downs.
