  1. If I can only have one, would take folkstyle. Freestyle is fun and I admire the achievements, but not for me the primary goal fo thye sport. Have not studied it, but I would guess that folkstyle wrestling dwarfs freestyle in the U.S. and our collegiate wrestling is so much fun that even Ono wants in. We should ditch greco at the olympics - what a huge bore. Worth it to add back 3 weights in freestyle.
  2. Whole idea of NIL is to be disruptive and reset the market dyanmics in favor of allowing economic opportunities for athletes. Opportunities were too long denied them by NCAA and schools that kept the $$ and had preposterous anti-competitive rules. Good that all programs and supporters should feel vulnerable to PSU as it will make them at least considering how to compete.
  3. No idea what the plan is but Vega looked like purede dynamite at the classic yesterday. Might be an early big impact wrestler.
  4. Not sure how clear the different levels are for Barr, Ryder, and Welsh at this point. I guess we will see.
  5. what does this look like - he brings a bat?
  6. Many of the best wrestlers never to win an NCAA title are the likely starters for PSU next year (other than HWT and if they are in the lineup, MM and Haines).
  7. Outstanding - a nice musical interlude as we ease into the offseason.
  8. 100% - this was not the result of NCAA decisions. But the old way (which did not bring parity) was wildly unfair to athletes. May take a while for NCAA, teams, and programs to figure out how to navigate. Of course, the real $$ is in football and hoops and not in wrestling and we are at most the tail of the football/hoops NIL dog.
  9. Seroulsy doubt that AD's have the same rabid passion for details of AA placers and team standings. A lot of other concerns and benchmarks for success about the program and its health and leadership. I do not root for this program and am not particularly a fan of Ryan, but do not see that he must go. He's had a lot of success and its a tough sport with ups and downs.
  10. Kind of expecting a Hwt transfer next??
  11. Could be - in the mold of Anthony Cassar.
  12. Of all the surprises of ass kicker transfers to PSU, this one (if it is so) seems the most troubling and potentially counterproductive. They are so loaded at 174-184 that - incredibly- it does not seem like much of a marginal benefit. Maybe there is something we don’t know???
  13. I am skeptical of this call.
  14. Its the wild wild west as all participants see how all the changes (30 roster and scholarship increases, NIL, portal rules) plays out. The wrestling has looked strong and I doubt that it will decline. I doubt that the economics of collegiate wrestling at a high level will decline. So perhaps overall good for collegiate wrestling even though it is not clear if or how parity as such will be increased or decreased? Also, B1G teams in the top half might measure parity or favorable parity in a way that is different than teams from the bottom half or from teams of the ACC, Big 12, Ivies, EIWA, etc. What are measures of favorable parity? # of NQ's, Round of 12, AA's, NCAA finalists, Champs? Dual meet success? Lots of ways to measure competitive sucsess and not the same for all programs or wrestlers.
  15. Ivies over the years have been able to compete for at least some atheltic recruits notwithstanding a lack of athletic tuition scholarships (I guess formerly up to 9.9) because of superior financial aid grant packages that can exceed whole or partial tuition athletic scholarships from the 9.9 cap. It can be a better deal for athletes from working and middle class families. Financial aid > athletic aid - for a certain class of kids and many wrestle families are not big $$. Not sure how this new settlement changes the landscape for Ivies using finanfcial need/aid to compete with the $$ from scholarship programs - probably not as effective. My unstudied impression is that some small subset of Ivy athletic recruits come from enough family wealth that they just care about the school and not so much the price. Some say Ivies generally love such a recruit. Probably not unique to Ivies, although most if not all purported to apply need-blind admissions. Not sure how prevalent this is among other competitive private schools or even public schools and too lazy to research it.
  16. People like their team/program/competitors to win. When they do not, they tend to demonize the team/program/competitors that are doing the most winning - often positing reasons why it is unfair or improper. Sometimes excuses are offered. One might view the venting of Shapiro and his "wink wink" video comments in this light. Not meaning to dismiss his medical problems, which are concerning and no doubt very real. A cousin of this is demonizing the fan base of the top dog or dogs. In the case of PSU, the fan base has doubtless grown with success. Every program has some supporters who go too far. With social media and a growing fan base it has become easier for those over the top fans to spread that kind of negative energy and for others to identify it as a hallmark of the program. I doubt there is much difference among supporters/fans of all programs other than right now PSU fans and program will be most despised because it comes with the stunning success. Same is true of Eagles. They had as many problem fans in the stands before they started winning so much hardware and even set up courts at the stadium to manage the arraignments on criminal charges for their disorderly conduct. Now that same frnage element might be found on social media even though these people are a very small part of the fan base.

  18. This needs some splainin - please?
  19. I think we are stepping on our own dicks with this baseless internet speculation. I insist we cut the crap.
  20. looks like he was last listed for the 23-24 season at 141/149 https://pennathletics.com/sports/wrestling/roster/sean-seefeldt/22291 If he sat out from school this year and lifted/grew like a demon, maybe he will be 174?
  21. I do not even go anywhere else, but a few years back I would duck into the blue and white illustrated because they had some info on recruits and expected/suggexsted recruiting strategies that seemed informative. I appreciate the many informed and thoughful posters here but is there somewhere else that is valuable for the collegiate wrestling fan? I expect not particularly, but interested in the wisdom of the board.
