  1. CNN lays out policies that Trump says he would enact if elected for a second term. https://www.cnn.com/2023/07/08/politics/trump-campaign-promises/index.html https://www.c-span.org/video/?524197-1/president-trumps-2024-campaign-announcement I like the direction on these Address the “disturbing” relationship between technology platforms and the government Foreign Policy: stop 'never-ending wars' Fentanyl: Former President Trump said he would deploy military assets to fight the fentanyl crisis and "inflict maximum damage" on cartel operations if elected in 2024, and he would seek the death penalty for convicted drug dealers and human traffickers.
  2. This discussion is to share your insights, opinions, and concerns about the candidates' policies, leadership qualities, and potential impact on our nation. Be respectful.
  3. Which type of 4D chess is this? The sarcastic kind where the strategy does not make sense and is doomed for failure, or the clever kind, where Biden is positioning himself as the student debt hero against the villain republicans?
  4. The Ministry of Truth in the 1984 novel refers to a governmental institution responsible for altering historical records and disseminating propaganda to manipulate and control public perception. -------------- STATE OF MISSOURI, ET AL. v. JOSEPH R. BIDEN JR., ET AL. | CASE NO. 3:22-CV-01213 On May 5, 2022, the Attorney Generals for Louisiana and Missouri filed suit against various named defendants for violations of the First Amendment. They asserted the defendants are liable for their conduct relating to the alleged suppression of certain ideas and viewpoints on social media platforms. Judge TERRY A. DOUGHTY wrote that the AGs are likely to succeed in their case based on the evidence. https://casetext.com/case/missouri-v-biden-4 This case is about the Free Speech Clause in the First Amendment to the United States Constitution. The explosion of social-media platforms has resulted in unique free speech issues— this is especially true in light of the COVID-19 pandemic. If the allegations made by Plaintiffs are true, the present case arguably involves the most massive attack against free speech in United States’ history. In their attempts to suppress alleged disinformation, the Federal Government, and particularly the Defendants named here, are alleged to have blatantly ignored the First Amendment’s right to free speech. Although the censorship alleged in this case almost exclusively targeted conservative speech, the issues raised herein go beyond party lines. The right to free speech is not a member of any political party and does not hold any political ideology. It is the purpose of the Free Speech Clause of the First Amendment to preserve an uninhibited marketplace of ideas in which truth will ultimately prevail, rather than to countenance monopolization of the market, whether it be by government itself or private licensee. 5. HAL, this is a safe space. There is no need for the control + alt + delete method to deflect answering questions. Scares me about republicans? There are times where more government regulation is required, rather than less. CEO pay does not bother me but pay the worker bees more, much more. Too much religion with policies. Not enough emotional consideration with decision making. Scares me about democrats? They want too much government control. Soft on crime. Soft on accountability. Weak on illegal immigration. Support the choice to murder the innocent unborn for what is selfish reasons in majority % of cases. Censorship in big tech and entertainment. DEI policies are racist and discriminatory. Believe they know better how to spend my money than I do. 100+ days of celebrating sexual preferences and raunchy parades around children. Riots. Majority of violent crime offenders. Play the victim. Want forced population control when it is not yet necessary. Too much emotional decision making. In general… …Anti global police. Taxes should pay for public college like it does k-12. Should have affordable healthcare through regulations and taxes. Be tougher on violent criminals. School should teach life skills and ethics. Ban lobbying and conflicts of interest. Cut gov services to pay down the national debt. Less gov services, bailouts, and taxes. Gov handouts should require energy / work in return. Take a scalpel approach to solve problems rather than blowtorch. No pork in bills. State power over federal power. Golden rule dictates policy. Debates with more than two parties present. No politician should leave gov. 10x richer.
  6. The mission statement, the challenge, and working with motivated A players. —— As per Musk: “So the goal is to have Twitter be the best source of truth, the most timely and accurate source of truth, even if the truth is something we don't want to hear or unpleasant or whatever, but have it be timely and accurate and where you can really understand what's going on.”Mar 7, 2023 —— Twitter's mission is to give everyone the power to create and share ideas and information instantly without barriers.
  7. Not now. I am trying to increase the family balance over the work priority, saying no to requests more often, and I think more about coaching than work. Not so long ago, yes.
  8. I am a software engineer that has owned rate limited APIs. I’ll go with the industry explanation and trust what Musk said his reasons are.
  9. Matt Levine knows nothing about engineering, is not paying attention, or cannot comprehend.
  10. Say more about what Republicans values would influence you to vote red.
  11. Musk votes blue… so does not align conservative… he just isn’t crazy left. Twitter is going to die any day now
  12. Is 'running out of money' and 'pending collapse' wishful thinking? Twitter was roughly break even in April. Musk is winning his goal for Twitter: it is the best source for truth, timely and more accurate than big news, and less censored.
  13. I will listen to RFK Jr and consider him even though we don’t agree on all issues.
  14. The courts are bringing back accountability and common sense. Students should fulfill their responsibility of repaying the loans they willingly took on. Anyone that says Jimmy should pay back his gambling debts would surely agree... That said... the cost of education is too damn high and I'm on board with providing more affordable options moving forward.
  15. Dude, merit matters topic?
  16. Presidential candidates react to Supreme Court's affirmative action ruling Mike Pence: "There is no place for discrimination based on race in the United States, and I am pleased that the Supreme Court has put an end to this egregious violation of civil and constitutional rights in admissions processes, which only served to perpetuate racism. I am honored to have played a role in appointing three of the Justices that ensured today’s welcomed decision, and as President I will continue to appoint judges who will strictly apply the law rather than twisting it to serve woke and progressive ends." Vivek Ramaswamy: "Affirmative action is a badly failed experiment: time to put a nail in the coffin & restore colorblind meritocracy." Song to celebrate (Verse 1) I'm bringing merit back, yeah! Ain't no time for all that race flack, no! It's time to level up the playing field, oh yeah! 'Cause picking winners based on race ain't real, oh! (Pre-Chorus) So let's focus on achievement, oh! Bring back fairness, let it show! It's not about color, it's about the best, yeah! Merit's the key, it's time to invest, oh! (Chorus) I'm bringing merit back, yeah! No more dividing, let's get on track, oh! Picking winners based on their skill, oh yeah! Let's celebrate the ones who fulfill, oh! (Verse 2) Gone are the days of unfair selection, yeah! We need a system based on true reflection, oh! No more quotas, let talent prevail, yeah! It's time for equal opportunities, no fail! (Pre-Chorus) (Chorus) (Bridge) This is about fairness, oh yeah! No more discrimination, let's be aware, oh! Together we can build a brighter tomorrow, yeah! Where merit triumphs over sorrow, oh! (Chorus) (Outro) So let's unite and make a change, oh yeah! Let's bring back merit, rearrange, oh! It's time to embrace the values we hold strong, yeah! No more picking winners based on the wrong, oh!
  17. It's a buy for me at ~$45 with a one year price target of $72. The culture wars will dictate how quickly this goes back to $80 and $100.
  18. Twitter is still better. Listen to RFK Jr in his own words today.
  19. The "we make the beer" commercial is good.
  20. Bob nails this with his influence comments. Active parenting cuts down on influential factors like emotional control, video games, social media, mental illness, and substance abuse. The easiest way to influence change is to manipulate the environment. If you remove the guns, the mass shootings stop. Similarly, if you replace the plates in your house with smaller plates, your household will lose weight. No education or incentive is required for the intended change to occur.
  21. Since creating and running his hedge fund between 1987 and retiring in 2001, according to the Motley Fool, Jim returned an annual average of 24% (besting Warren Buffet). https://www.fool.com/investing/general/2014/10/06/how-jim-cramer-made-his-millions.aspx I don't watch Mad Money or follow his picks. Given the criticism of Jim, I wonder if the LJIM ETF (Long Cramer, up 7%) and SJIM (Inverse Cramer, down 9%) will hold moving forward. Jim is a real know nothing after all.
  22. @Wrestleknownothing Is the Blackrock employee talking about index funds, or hedge funds? Hedge Funds. Depends on the many contexts of "influence." If politicians and judges can be bought for thousands,$40B is plenty to influence enough to impact policy and outcome. $100 is enough to manipulate penny stocks... $40B is plenty enough to make a more significant impact on policies, news, impact, and such. Cramer is the hedge fund manager explaining how he manipulated the market. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gyaPf6qXLa8
  23. Does the Fund Manager make the investment decisions? Why did the Blackrock cofounder Ralph Schlosstein say that Blackrock is "the most influential financial institution in the world?" What impact does CEO Larry Fink have on ESG investing as a way to apply non-financial factors like climate change initiatives and DEI programs to the analysis of investments? What is 'proxy voting' concerning 'investors,' and how does this relate to Blackrock's influence? Does BlackRock manage hedge funds (yes, ~40B)? What is this former hedge fund manager describing? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gyaPf6qXLa8. Interestingly, Blackrock is criticized both for ESG and wokeness while also criticized for harmful investments. Some say Blackrock belongs in the corporate hall of shame - https://corporateaccountability.org/blog/blackrock-for-2022-corporate-hall-of-shame/. Blackrock has been referred to as the fourth branch of government - https://web.archive.org/web/20220702134344/https://www.bqprime.com/businessweek/how-larry-fink-s-blackrock-is-helping-the-fed-with-bond-buying#bypass-sw I'll stick with my belief that Blackrock manipulates the market, including the method described by the Blackrock employee that fits the industry stereotype.
