Fadzaev2 replied to CowboyYe2024's topic in College Wrestling
Wow....honor roll, ping pong and chess clubs.....and they actually printed that, along with "High School" -Oklahoma State???? Who did this media guide work????? SMH 3 high schools is interesting too. -
I tend to agree, but I'll throw in Russ Hellickson from Wisconsin to Ohio State.
-
Tony Robie wrestled at Edinboro, not Clarion.
-
No, but he had more class and respect for others.

Reminds me of a Johnny Rivers song....The Sidewalk Song....kind of depressing though (maybe 1970)
-
... yes, you will. I know, I noticed it after the "time limit"....I couldn't correct it.
-
Thanks, I'll at that to my wristband!!!!!!

Wow, I guess that's a great question.....I don't think I can pick out just one, they all have there memories, but, 1972 (Cole Fieldhouse, Maryland) definitely stands out, partly because it was my first, on Saturday we skipped the consolation matches and visited the Washington Monument and Lincoln Memorial. It included, just like all the others, great wrestling....At 118 Greg Johnson won his 3rd NCAA title, at 126, Yoshiro Fujita (defended champion) broke his collar bone in the first round and was out , 134 was high scoring match that ended up with Gary Barton (Clarion) upsetting Phil Parker ISU, Iowa State winning the NCAA title with 3 champions in Carl Adams, Ben Peterson and Chris Taylor. That year, Clarion (Div. 2) had 2 NCAA Champions in Barton and Wade Schalles, and they followed up in 1973 with 3 Champions in Schalles, Don Rohn, and Bill Simpson...Div. 2 scores didn't count in the team score or Clarion would have been up there in the team score as Iowa State again won it with 2 champions in Rich Binek and Chris Taylor. Every year the guys I go with (former wrestlers of mine) and I try to make a trip to an area place of importance, Philly as seen above, Oklahoma City bombing, World Trade Center, The Museum in Tulsa for the burning of "Black Wall Street", etc. Will have to think about this....maybe to be continued!!!

I haven't taken a new picture of the NCAA board in awhile, but what I do now, is take screen shots of all my electronic tickets, put them in publisher and adjust them to the right size, print them out on cardstock, cut them out and "wala", I have my physical tickets!

Great interview with Coach Bormet!

For me.....46th NCAA Championship dating back to 1972 (Maryland).....this will be 40 in a row, dating back to 1985 (Oklahoma City)....before I retired, it was a vacation, today.....it's still a vacation....lol. Some day I plan on being the last man standing....oh, and by the way, I can prove I've been to each of those NCAA's!!!

I've been involved in wrestling over 60 years, and I love both freestyle and folkstyle....I love coaching both styles. Wrestlers learn from both styles.

JB has done a great job many times......I've been saying that for some time now. He only continues to get better.

And then there's.... See, I know a little bit about a few sports.....then there's Doc Counsilman

Don't forget open water swimming.

I think you are prejudiced based on your background. Wrestling was one of the oldest sports in the world and a key part of the ancient Olympic Games in Greece, where it was first contested in 708 BCE All the more reason to bring back 10 weight classes!!!!

Has Coleman Scott found a new job yet?

What about Hofstra .....is that job open???? -
Fried pinned Tom at Midlands his sophomore year at OSU, and he also teched Tom in 87 at junior nationals 16-0. Overall though Tom has more wins against Alan. I think it was the first year Alan won junior nationals (won it 4 times), he had both nofd the Brands and Lincoln McIlravy in his bracket.
