  1. Sometimes I start drifting to the idea of moving college to freestyle.
  2. Meant to add: the dual, unfortunately, was essentially over at the moment RBY stuck Teske. Iowa needed to thread a bit of a needle to win this, and that result made the eye of said needle incredibly small.
  3. Man. No stall calls on Kerk given how they called other matches is brutal. Dean managed to do less than Warner (which is hard to do) and win (to be clear, I don't think there should have been stalling calls on Dean, unless the ref was going to call double stalling, because that was awful). Starocci has more in him than he shows, which makes it frustrating to watch him. He's so much better than Nelson Brands. Teske nearly stalled his way to a decision, but karma caught up to him. Bartlett, Van Ness, and Facundo had jo discernible offense, same with Siebrecht (fun match, but Cobe only barely avoided a couple of more Haines TDs) and Brands (nice try to pretend like you're active without taking committed shots. All the wrestlers on both teams were disappointing to me in the second half of the dual except for Brooks.
  4. Man, Teske with the bone head move of the year there, lol.
  5. Uhhh, Amine's hand was clearly down with Kharchla in rear standing.
  6. Hopefully when Kharchla moves up next year that helps him make gains.
  7. I would agree that he doesn't have a whole lot of different techniques from top position, but the ones he does have are very technically sound in how he performs them. In neutral, he is very varied, capable in finishing multiple ways, and (in an unusual turn from an Iowa wrestler) is very proficient in scrambling situations.
  8. All good additions, big oversight on my part not including Hendrickson. Also, blanked on Alirez, who is a TON of fun to watch from neutral.
  9. That depends on what you're talking about when you say issue. I think anybody would agree that he doesn't have the same pop in the 3rd as he does in the first. However, he's never really "gassed out" where he's giving up multiple TDs, as we've seen gassed/broken wrestlers do. He's just tired, probably from the amount of energy he expends in the first. The most tired he looks is typically in the beginning of his last two full seasons (the Iowa State dual this year, and...I want to say it was a dual against UTC two seasons ago). He literally just pinned a top 6 wrestler late in the second period. Like in his last match.
  10. Skirmishes would be a more appropriate term. Mild, mild skirmishes.
  11. Oh that was nasty all the way around. I'm grateful they didn't stop that pinning combo from Gomez, too.
  12. For me, my favorite two wrestlers to watch are Bryce Andonian and Austin Gomez (and yes, I'm including Hawkeyes in my analysis). Keegan O'Toole seems to have taken a slight step back in his dynamism, IMO, or else he would be up there, too. I've also enjoyed Real Woods, Spencer, Swiderski, and Yianni. Kerkvleit and Brooks from PSU has all the tools, but aren't quite putting if all together (from aesthetic perspective; results are great!)
  13. What is it you think I would find irksome if he was wrestling in a different singlet?
  14. Examples that run counter to what you're claiming are being provided and you're just like "...nah, doesn't count."
  15. Yes, and the cardio issues are being way overblown here. He's tired late in matches, after wrestling much harder than most in the first period, but he's rarely "gassed", except his first match this year, and the first match two seasons ago. There's a difference between being tired and gassing out.
  16. Why not stop being weird and just say what you're trying to insinuate?
  17. Right now your argument centers around him not being able to beat men because they come from less wealthy countries and thus want to feed their families, as if there's never been a wealthy wrestling champion. Didn't Lebedev's family like own a diamond mine or something? It's all 1960's "eat your cereal with grit if you want to be tough like the champ" mentality. He has struggled later in matches during the regular season, but where has he been at the end of every season, usually wrestling multiple full matches? And we're insinuating a lack of toughness as if he hasn't torn his ACL(s) multiple times and wrestled thru it (including mid match). That's about as much adversity as you're going to find on the mat, and yet here we are.
  18. Dude, you're critiquing me for being biased for being an Iowa fan while making nonsensical points after admitting that you formed opinions about him from years ago.
  19. Yes, if he doesn't pin or tech somebody, he is more likely to lose, that is kind of self-evident, I'm not even sure what the analysis that is happening right now is, lol.
  20. Christ man. His ACL has torn twice, in the middle of matches, including an NCAA final, but he hasn't had to face adversity. This thread is a true testament to arm-chair quarterbacking, lol.
  21. Dude, you're on here talking as if Lee retired and never accomplished anything in Freestyle, when he is still an active wrestler. Are YOU alright? Have you come from the future to tell us what transpires? BTW, not like the US has some amazing trove of highly technical wrestlers at 57, either.
  22. Again, we're talking as if Lee has been retired for several years and lamenting about what could have been. Also we have another guy waxing on about his lack of technical acumen while also claiming he should have left college wrestling and only wrestled international. If he's not that level of talent, what does it matter?
  23. The way @LJB and others (but primarily LJB) are talking, you would think Spencer Lee retired 6 years ago and we're assessing his career in retrospect. We all understand he's still wrestling, correct?
  24. I mean...other than Penn State, this is true for all the rest of college wrestling at some weight range, or most weight ranges.
