It's a shame because it probably means the kid will also forgo a college degree.  Sucks to see so many College wrestlers not take advantage of the opportunties presented to them.

Hasn't the word been that he wasn't much into schooling...🪑

Forgo a college degree?

He is so far behind in his academics that he would need an additional 3-5 years to graduate with a basic degree (keeping the same pace he has already shown capable of doing).

I'm hearing he didn't have much of a choice on account of how bad he f###### his transcript

Yeah, it's becoming more obvious that he wasn't benched for Voinovich.  He was ineligible because he would rather not do schoolwork.

"switch to freestyle" = "I was freestylin' school, so now I freestyle wrestle"

He will probably still get paid as an RTC athlete to train at HWC.

Would he still have been on the roster if ineligible?

That's an athletic department decision, but it also may be determined by what is in the scholarship and/or financial aid agreement. It is possible he could stay on the roster. My understanding was that he had a lot of credits to recover last summer before he could even wrestle the first semester. He must have done that, but then failed to keep eligible at Iowa by not passing classes first semester which resulted in ineligibility second semester. On top of that, he probably has not met the requirements of progress toward a degree.

There are tiers to eligibility.  If he was not meeting a set goal put forth by admissi9ns, they might be forced to rescind certain privileges - but maybe not all privileges.

I don’t know Iowa's rules, specifically, so I honestly can't say.

“Academic probation” comes to mind…maybe something like that

They needed the influx of talent, this is a serviceable lineup

He was tough as hell in highschool, I honestly thought he would have had a better college career thus far, maybe this change will help him.

Gage Wright to the Buckeyes from VT per X. He has three years eligibility…

Wright is a good pick up for Ohio State. I watched a couple of his matches his true freshman year. He wrestled some 165 and 174 too, I believe, but was ineligible last season. He’s a stud out WV and 2 sport star and probably will end up a full sized 174 or maybe 184. Hate to see him leave VT but doubt he was gonna beat Burton anytime soon
