I think this offseason will very telling on what happens next at Iowa. Tom hinted at getting a succession plan in place during his recent interview.

If they bring in a big named young assistant during the offseason then I think that telegraphs the most likely scenario. If they don’t then I think it’s out of Tom’s hands as to who is the next HC.

All that being said, I think it’s fairly obvious that they should give Burroughs whatever he wants in order to get him onboard as HC. He is the by far the best next big thing from a coaching standpoint. If he wants the job this April then he should get it no matter what the AD told Tom. He might be fine waiting another year and getting his affairs in order out east before moving the family.

I’ve said it on here so many times, and I’ll say it again; I don’t see Burrroughs being a good HC. Freestyle, maybe. What can he teach that he did? To be explosive? To be a Superior Athlete?  Again, same for Dake. I mean, Dake dominated matches 3-1, and 4-2 in college. Holding center and not giving up a takedown, or utilizing a blast double 5 feet out is not capable by 99.9% of the world. Did they generate much offense?

I like the social media and video content DT is doing. Inside looks are always cool. I'm sure it sells to recruits too - "this is what we're actually like" goes a long way towards getting kids to know what they're getting into. I'm hopeful it translates into kids staying longer at the program too because they made the right decision upfront. But also its just cool to see our sport packaged in a way that is modern and fresh. Even though I'm not a huge social media/shortform content fan.

What DT is doing is great, but I think Carl achieves the same only he gets other people to do it for him. Like all the podcasts, incl the ones hosted by PSU wrestlers, social media reels, etc. pulling back the veil of secrecy and talking about Cael bro'ing down, their cookouts, training, etc.

Again, it's not about teaching moves.

Re "great athlete": I rarely get irritated by wrestling talk, but this is ... I won't say it ... but if it looks like a duck.

I understand that. He catches the eyes of recruits. But you know what’s really cool? Winning. People ride the line at PSU to get their shot at winning. If JB doesn’t make a wrestler consistently go from good to great, what’s he getting paid for?

I just think he’s more of a band-aid on a bullet wound guy. A temporary fix.

You are not wrong. He really is just quack quack quacking.

You see what you want to see so what you see isn’t reality. Be suspicious of perceptions that conveniently confirm what you already want.

No. I stand by what I said. 100%

I think Burrough would be better than Dake, but neither being exceptional.

Absurd take.

The idea that Burroughs isn't great technically and only had a double is one of the dumbest things I've seen on this board.  A true accomplishment to get under the bar of past absurdity.

You don't see the benefit of his name? I'm sure you do.

Uh yeah... his name.  That is it.

Superior athlete.  Boring style in general (similar to current Iowa style), except for the occasional highlight reel "bomb."

Very strange pseudoscientific beliefs, some old interviews may come off as borderline offensive.

Pretty much no coaching experience, somewhat abrasive personality.

You don't see this as a problem? I'm sure you do

I don't get the skepticism. Of course Dake and/or Burroughs could be good coaches if they set their minds to it and committed to the role. There would be a learning curve for sure but its silly to outright dismiss their coaching potential because you don't like a couple of their characteristics.

That's cool. More eyes on the sport is a good thing! Like I've been unfollowing nonsense on Facebook and now my algorithm is like "you only enjoy wrestling, so here's only wrestling content" lol. And I've been getting reels from practices and weight cuts and workouts. Its fascinating! I only wrestled at the youth level so its cool to see the thought process of what goes into high level competition.

Spencer Lee is going to get the whole team to do one arm pull-ups.

I think Metcalf would be more of the same for Iowa tbh. Iowa should go after Burroughs if they really want to make big waves.

I wonder now with OSU Stilly Boys YouTube, that Iowa's WrestleTownUSA channel will expand with content outside of just grinding away in the concrete dungeon room.

Dake won something like 28 of 37 matches by bonus his senior year and had multiple wins over David Taylor. That's pretty dominant, especially in the old scoring era.

Sure does, but a rare few perform their best in life for more than just $$, like these two men.

Cunningham is rumored to get paid more than a lot of d1 head coaches.   Prolly by accident

I may be completely wrong about Iowa but I feel like it is Tom and Terry and helpers right now. If they would move Terry to the RTC head and bring in an assistant that is going to push for some change then I think Tom Brands can win again. Right now it seems from the outside Iowa is an echo chamber and change rarely occurs there.

I would love to see 5 legitimate contending teams out there every year. I will say that is sports I generally like dynasties. I like inevitability of them winning and the rejoicing when the top dog loses.
