Has anyone ever seen Metcalf smile? Tough as nails former Iowa wrestler with zero personality. He ain’t the one.

Metcalf has way more personality than current crew at iowa

Full of un-bias blasphemy.

No but money does talk.

Sure does, but a rare few perform their best in life for more than just $$, like these two men.

Doug Schwab.  He hasn't competed in a long time but he has made a splash with his monologues to the team shown on social media.  The HS kids follow it, I hear them talking about them quite a bit.

Iowa State metcalf is not the same guy he was at Iowa.  Flo (i think) did an interview with him a while back, it was really tremendous.

Agreed, and I think the same can be said for Ramos.

I think the real, greater question here is that, now that brands is starting to go the way of J Smith, besides Jordan Burroughs, who has the accomplishments and personality to step in actually achieve positive change with the program?

We all know something has to happen, the program is hollowed out and there is near zero meaningful alumni base in the program.  At least athletes were largely loyal to Gable, he did something right.

Is it time for a tom ryan figure to step forward? Someone who is a much better coach than competitor themselves? Any chance Brian Snyder could be flipped? He has quite a pedigree as a coach.

But really, wtf, this program needs help.

nah you’re not kidding any one with that moniker. The true clowns are those like you hiding in shame for the once D1 kick-ass-take-no-prisoners wrestling dynasty no more - at least for now, Punk.

Yes and yes. Both have mentioned that stepping away from Iowa was the best thing they've done for themselves. Not saying that Iowa's bad or wrong. Their way of doing things just isn't for everyone. And exposing yourself to new ideas and cultures is how you grow and improve.

I have no idea why Dake's name is always coming up.  Really...

You don't see the benefit of his name? I'm sure you do.

pretty much a "clone" of coach Cale.  He just rebranded it at Okie State.

I disagree and think that Taylor understands something that Sanderson doesn't have to worry about: PR in the digital age. DT knows that he can never catch PSU if builds a fortress of solitude around his program. He needs followers and likes. So, you can find more videos, inside looks, interviews, pics, bios about the 25-26 than you can about the entirety of Sanderson's run. (Im not even sure thus is hyperbole).

Maybe the 'wrestling" is the same, but "wrestling" isn't going to beat PSU.

Simply not true and you’ve clearly never heard him speak since he’s been on staff.

I consider that marketing effort part of the rebrand.  Maybe I'm not using the correct term in my synopsis.  For example, the "Stillyboys" clips are genius and racking up clicks.  Taylor is not recreating the wheel, just putting on better tires.

I'm just hoping to see some other programs realize that the "train has left the depot" and chugging away.  Some may need a new engineer, but regardless, better trade that steam engine for a diesel, and catch up with the times.

Gotcha, and you're right: every team not PSU has to play this new PR game if they want to get on the podium.  (I'm not sure that winning is possible in the foreseeable future)

I like the social media and video content DT is doing. Inside looks are always cool. I'm sure it sells to recruits too - "this is what we're actually like" goes a long way towards getting kids to know what they're getting into. I'm hopeful it translates into kids staying longer at the program too because they made the right decision upfront. But also its just cool to see our sport packaged in a way that is modern and fresh. Even though I'm not a huge social media/shortform content fan.
