These claims that people make about their employers having quotas are a bunch of B.S. as far as I'm concerned. I've never been at a place that had quotas. And I've worked in a multitude of Pvt sector and public sector jobs.

My performance review had both a business and a people rating.  For the people side the frontline portion was based on mirroring the regions population base.  If 30% of the region was brown, 30% of the frontline force needed to be brown.  For the management side you were taking the next diverse college grad in the pipeline whether it was the best person or not.  No ifs, ands or buts about it.  I’ve been retired for almost seven years but stay in touch with folks still there.  That management strategy is longer in place as it failed miserably.

You're a habitual liar and I believe this is just another one of your B.S. winger lies.

Do you know what affirmative action is? It is definitely a thing that exists regardless of your personal experience.

If you don't think geologists work for corporations, then you're a complete idiot. You can easily look it up.

how many brown geologists are there?

just wait, you are going to be replaced yet again

Not many, for whatever  reason. Nevertheless, I've never seen anybody at any school I attended or employer I worked for say "we're going to go out of our way to hire brown geologists."

My Masters Thesis was done under the supervision of a professor that was darker than the ace of spades though.

Yes, I know quotas have occurred in U.S. history. They're extremely rare though, and WAY overplayed by the dumb wingers, just like all their other claims.

I worked for a very large company, and we would have tax penalties for not meeting the numbers the government gave us. They were classified as "non traditional employees." It was common knowledge that if they produced zero work it was still cheaper to keep them. Some were really good, others were worthless. We had to meet the hiring quota because we accepted government contracts. This also included veterans and females.

Don’t y’all get tired of being wrong so much?

https://www.linkedin.com/pulse/corporate-dei-what-laurie-greer-cde-she-her--8odpc
Corporate DEI means:

·      Ensuring that you are considering candidates with different backgrounds and including different genders/races/abilities/etc. in the hiring process as candidates.  By having a diverse slate of candidates, you are creating a fair and equitable process.  It is NOT hiring someone because of their race/gender/etc.  This is not what DEI initiatives intends or is a best practice. I am sure this may happen however, it is not the intent of DEI initiatives. (that first paragraph pretty much blows you all out of the water, what are you going to say next,'but it FEELS like... blah blah blah to me')

·      Pay equity. DEI initiatives typically involve conducting regular audits to ensure that all are paid fairly.  Read that again, ALL are paid fairly and not dependent on what you made at your last job., position or whether you were in a financial position  that offered you the opportunity to negotiate. (I love that the text of the article is highlighting just how wrong you all are)

·      Enhanced decision making through having different perspectives on teams.  Several studies by McKinsey have found that corporations that embrace DEI outperform their competitors by over 25% and as much as 36%.  This is about best practices and increased revenue. (who said what about 'business learned that it wasn't worth it'? ya you're wrong too)

·      Better products and services which support sales and revenue. Automotive safety is a key area where diverse teams would have benefited both seat belt design and crash test dummies, both designed with men’s body stature and shape and therefor, not as safe for women. Medical devices such as heart stents and the lack of considering the differences in cardiovascular differences in men and women.  More recently, voice assistance and facial recognition would have had better experiences for all had all nationalities/genders been a part of the testing teams.

·      DEI Trainings are meant to protect your company just as workplace safety, data security and privacy and other compliance trainings do.  Do you consider safety trainings woke?

·      Feelings of belonging and inclusion retain employees.  SHRM estimates the cost of replacing an employee is 1.5-2.5 times the employee’s salary.

·      Increase your candidate pool if potential applicants believe they will be valued at their place of employment.

The most successful companies are those that are best equipped to understand and serve their customer base but also look to how they can expand on that customer base through innovative and divergent thinking.  A focus on DEI is not about hiring those who are not qualified- which seems to be a misconception currently.   It’s about those benefits listed above- in addition to many others.   This was a quick overview but I hope it helped with some of the basics of DEI goals and objectives and dispel some misconceptions. (ya I didn't have much else to say after that last comment. Seems like I was beating up a toddler. You all suck for having the opinions you have for the reasons that you have them. You're wrong. Now you know you're wrong. Will you take the leap and change your minds? I hope so. But I doubt it)

I Can’t tell you how many times on a team call or in private I’ve been asked …. “Have any black references we need to hire a black guy or gal …..”

ironic twist.   Never in that quote is it “or a South American…“ Dei hurts brown people lol

Do you still not understand how and why anecdotal evidence is not adequate to prove something of the whole population? Do you think that your experience is exactly the same as everyone else?

Do you understand the phrase; All models are wrong, some are helpful? It means that regardless of how much information you think you have, you cannot have a 100% understanding of a phenomenon. You can get close. But never fully

Your anecdotal information can prove very few things. Such as, maybe people in your workplace are comfortable being racist around you. I wouldn't brag about that, personally. Or they are just stupid and don't understand what DEI really means.

I’ve worked for startups that push it…. It usually starts after they “make it” though.
And what could be a reason for that? Start ups are small and tend to be made up of a small group of people. People find comfort in traits shared by members of the group. Be it, looks, interests, geography, goals. All of these areas need to be diversified once an organization grows beyond a certain point. That is if they want the organization to continue to grow and thrive. By making this comment you are making the pro DEI point for us and that fact that you don't realize it says a lot.

Start ups are hardly typical corporate America.

I have a feeling you're not being honest. Shocking right? Perhaps there were bonuses tied to the 'mirroring' of the region. But I very much doubt it NEEDED to be made up of certain people.
Management. This is BS. 100%. This is a lie. There is no area that just hires someone out of college regardless of experience. I would love evidence of this if I am wrong.
Failed miserably, or someone is lying to you. A disgruntled employee with an axe to grind is venting their conspiracy theories to a person that is all too willing to entertain, believe, and repeat them to others. Congrats, you are a parrot.

Evidence? And what happened to that lawsuit? You brought it up but did bother to read the outcome. You really can't make this stuff up. It must be tricky how to maintain your level of ignorance. Knowing just enough but not having the curiosity to follow up and actually learning valuable things. Blows my mind.

fair on the brown thing but it is what it is… in my experience they cater first to black folks.

It is beyond common for the next promotion to be mandated to be a minority or our next hire(s).  It always comes from HR.  If you don’t see that you don’t want to.  It’s been that way for 30 years

It’s been that way since the ‘70s.  Just listen to Victor Davis Hanson tell about his experiences at California Universities.

I think DEI, like a lot of things (ex. religion) is well intended in its concept...in my experience the problem lies with how people interpret and put the philosophies into practice.  While most are well indented, the actual outcome of what people implement is the exact opposite of the intent...which results in people being adversely selected or not selected on things other than their ability to perform the job.  And example of this is at a large company I worked for, I literally was told to hire certain candidates not based solely on capability and that other "considerations" outside of job function (gender and race) had to be taken into consideration even if that person wasn't the most capable...I was even passed over for a promotion and was told by the hiring manager, a good friend of mine, that he couldn't hire me because he was told he had to consider "other factors" outside of his control and skill sets for the role.

Again, point being, I think once again people messed things up with DEI and it got out of control terms of how they implemented and executed the concepts and it ended up doing the exact thing DEI was trying to stop.
