I feel like there’s less dependence on the portal this year than previously.

# of transfers in starting lineup, unless I missed any:

PSU: 2

tOSU: 1

OK State: 4 (interestingly, of their 10 starters counting Forrest, they have 22 total losses, and transfers have 17 of them)”

this guy counted for his share, but he’s on fire now.

Ah, okay.  I stand corrected, at the very least.

It would be so cool to see these four re-enact this in twenty years.

Kerk was definitely a transfer. I can’t remember if he was pre portal days or early portal days. And yes I recall he committed to many a school before he actually enrolled in one and then transferred to another.
I have no issue with the portal, kids should be able to change schools like coaches can at the drop of a hat. Fair is fair.
But I do think not all transfers are created equal. I don’t look at a 1yr mercenary the same way I do a kid who found a better fit and ended being somewhere 3-4 yrs (5 in Kerks case due to the COVID year) after being somewhere first for a hot minute. 🤷‍♂️

I agree with you.

No worries boss.   It’s changing rapidly and it’s been a wild ride for the last 5/7/10 years

I’m torn between the kids should be able to get paid and the amount of transfers makes it madness.  It’s much worse in the revenue sports too.

I fear we need the NCAA to stick around for wrestling to be viable at the collegiate level in the capacity we currently have (or more) and with the delineation we are going, we might not have it around for my children's children to see the same sport.

WTF are you going off about.   You can read between the lines?

Spadle asked if Ech counted as a transfer.  I said yes and gave the most obvious example of someone counting as a transfer with limited time at another school, much less wrestling activity at the same school, Ohio State, as Ech.

You'd have to be dumber than a box of rocks to take it any other way.

Again, no one asked about guys from PSU whose toes you want to lick.

Please keep your weird sexual fetishes off of this board.  We've had to drive you ALLEGED pedophiles off this place and will do it again if we have to.

You don't think it's odd that you randomly bring up guys who no one was discussing? Strangely, young Daniel Gregory happened to be from a certain school that built its athletic program on the backs of a pedophile and a pedo enabler. That was enough for me to stop supporting PSU as a program ever again... And then YOU randomly bring up pedophilia?

Feeling guilty?

Kerk wasn't the portal, was he (pre-portal)?

Also, he followed his training partner (Snyder).

Also, also, wasn't he Christian Carrol before Christian Carrol was Christian Carrol? 6 or 7 schools before he competed?

I think Kerkvliet had committed to another school (MN?) before ultimately enrolling at Ohio State.  He only transferred the one time though unlike Carroll.

ISU has wrestled some duals with 6 transfers in the lineup this season.  Aiden Riggins has wrestled 4 duals for the cyclones up at 174 filling in for MJ Gaitan.

I guess Dresser is this year’s “most valuable purchaser”

I have Rocco Welsh as a portal guy starting for PSU this year. Who is the other you are talking about? Mesenbrink?

This is a distinction I have never understood.  I don't get why it matters, like we are judging some transfers (either the athlete or the school) as superior to another.

Guys transfers now, it happens.  To me, it doesn't matter how long they were at their previous school.  Almost all teams are using the portal as well, none of them are different or "less equal"  that any other.

Not to mention a lot of the “1 year mercenaries” particularly during the covid years had graduated and got graduate degrees at their new school, so it could be argued that is actually a “better” reason for transferring.

Was Interviewed_at_Weehawken_by_Chris_Hansen too long of a name for you?

Spadle and I were having a discussion and you chimed in for no reason and then went with your depravity.   You add no value, so why are you here?

So sayeth the shrimping king of Central PA. 🤡

"We were having a discussion..." Bahahahaha.  It is a private  message board.  PM if you want a private discussion.

Clearly I do add value, I have "won the day" multiple times, lol!

Yeah are we sure?  I agree with nhs in thinking he was pre-portal.  Flo doesn't always know just ask @Wrestleknownothing.

Can’t tell if you’re being sarcastic here, how would they know to call it the portal if it didn’t exist yet?

When (the date/year of article) did they report he had been in the "portal?"

Not sure why that makes a difference anyway?  If we’re being technical pretty sure Echemendia never entered the portal

Doesn't Carroll have that beat both in commitments and transfers.  Carroll had committed to three schools, Illinois, Penn, and OSU before ultimately enrolling at OSU.  He then never wrestled a match in an OSU singlet before transferring to ISU where he wrestled half a season before transferring to Wyoming.  So 5 schools and two transfers vs 4 schools and 1 transfer for Kerk.

Illinois -> Penn -> OSU (Transfer)-> ISU (Transfer)-> Wyoming

He seems to be doing well.  Maybe he's finally found home.  🏡
