I really find this (refs talking to wrestlers on HOW to wrestle during the match) VERY distracting and adds NOTHING to the bout... hey pal, you had your "Day in the Sun"... shut up and JUST REF THE MATCH, m'kay?

( Really! )

Never argue with an idiot. They will only bring you down to their level and beat you with experience.

Agreed

Full of un-bias blasphemy.

He would say, "Improve, improve!" at times that seemed... strange.

And he was doing it often. I ended up listening to the PSU broadcast instead.

Crazy annoying and says stupid stuff.  "Improve!" after 5 seconds of riding.  "Keep it Legal" and chastised wrestler for using illegal move, but "keep it legal" can be taken two ways.  I would assume that it is legal at the moment and to keep it so, not a warning to change it to something legal.  If it was illegal as he was yelling "keep it legal", then he should blow the whistle.  The side chatter was fingernails on a chalkboard.

He has been the worst so far this year. But how is it possible that refs seem to keep getting worse and not better? Refs are not supposed to dictate matches period...

Somehow the 2 worst officiated dual this year have both involved the huskers.....🤔

It might be because he was mic'd up but did anyone else find this guy annoying?

He never shut up.

I ended up muting the broadcast.

I loved it! I enjoyed in the MM-LJ match he said “he’s batting 1000”

yep
and every once in awhile you can hear him talking to someone else about things

I think he started talking about “the production” by the B1G/tv crew at one point.

I thought he was fine

I agree, I thought he was good.  Many good refs talk, so they do not have to blow the whistle.  I have officiated several sports throughout my lifetime.  The better refs that I worked with were always vocal.

Completely... small guy syndrome... had an ax to grind... felt like it was all about the ref.  I can't stand that refs now try and influence/coach the kids into being more aggressive.  All night it was IMPROVE, WATCH THE FINGERS, KEEP HANDS OUT OF THE FACE.  They shouldn't mic the refs for this very fact.  Mic the coaches.  Thank you for your astute observation.

Complete opposite thought process. The best refs talk less. Seems like I was able to watch wrestling for over 40 yrs without a ref being part of the show, but now they all are. Ref the match and don't dictate anything.  Can't just keep blabbing away in a match.  Call scores, illegal holds, stalling, etc..It was the worst back in the day when freestyle refs had to say "zone" when near the edge of the mat. Like, the wrestlers were not aware they were in the "zone"...

I think it’s pretty common for refs to talk to the wrestlers like that during the match.   I just don’t think they’re often mic’ed up
