Ryan is doing good in Columbus.

Folks have been calling for TR's job since 2016...

He's just gotten a break this season so far.

So they are ready to run him out if/when they falter? Hard to imagine, this isn't the sacred cow football.

Imagine how many he'd have in I.C.

Ryan’s on the downward slope of his career…age, health/the accident. When he leaves it won’t be for another job, it’ll be for retirement.
And yeah sounds like Jaggers is the heir apparent, UNLESS tOSU AD looks at PSU (Cael) and Okie St (DT) and tries to make a big time splash hire.

And I’m not sure who that would be, the bench is thin as far as guys with coaching experience, whether it be a club or as a collegiate assistant.

The big home grown tOSU splash hire pretty much removed himself from the equation when he walked thru that motel door…😳

Do you think the physical size of the head coach coach matters? Like, if you had two equally credentialed and capable candidate ... would you take a 125 or 184?

I don’t think that particularly matters but across your staff, head and assistants, you wanna try to spread the sizes around. Guys who can roll around with the 125-141s, guys who can roll with the 149-165s, guys who can handle the 174-197s, someone who can beat on a frosh HWY. That seems to be the desired formula.

You think Kyle Synder won’t ever get a coaching job bc he got caught with a fake hooker once?

I think IF he ever does, it’s gonna be a while. It’s wrestling. ADs don’t care about wrestling, until they have to care about wrestling. A Kyle Snyder hire anytime soon, draws unwanted attention. I could care less, but I’m not the sole arbitrator, there are people who would care and they’re the types who tend to make noise.

I think he has a better shot at a small club in a wrestling crazy area like PA, OH, NJ where you’d get enough Dads (and maybe Moms) looking the other way because hey, for $XXX/mo my kid can learn wrestling from an Olympic Gold medalist. And then with time, all wounds are healed and he can work his way up the collegiate ladder if that’s a path he chooses.

My take on it. I could be wrong, time will tell.

Fake hooker.  Nice caveat. Before you answer take off the blue glasses:  How many hookers in all seriousness do you think he was with before getting caught.  Wasn’t his wife at a wedding or pregnant or something shady ?  To lazy to look that up but it was something shady

Agree 100%. And do those two want to coach? Seems like if they did they would be out there. Or are they waiting for certain retirements? Meaning Nebraska and Cornell.

If they motivated by money and tradition then Iowa is the job.

If I'm Beth Goetz, I'm making guys like Burroughs, Dake, and Askren say no to me at least twice. I think Iowa needs to shake things up in a big way or else it's probably not worth moving on from Brands brothers.

I think another big component is the impact the next head coach has to the HWC. The current HWC athletes are all former Iowa guys, and outside of Spencer Lee, not a lot of significant accomplishments from those athletes at the World & Olympic level. Both the NLWC & Cowboy Wrestling Club have athletes from other schools who joined the club after college. I gotta believe those outside perspectives are super beneficial to the active college guys and club guys.

I'd like to think guys like Burroughs or Dake would be much more likely to influence top talent to go to Iowa or join the HWC.

This has been going on for ten plus.

I think Tom is in his late 50s, and has earned the right to leave the program on his own terms, imo. Assuming he isn't pushed out, I could see him coaching a single digit number of years and retiring around normal retirement age. That's my operating assumption of the timeliness, anyway. Jaggers seems like the HC in waiting, but I think the landscape will be very different by then. How many of the golden era greats will have slots by then? It's an interesting thought experiment, imo. Brands' would be around the same age as they were teammates, but I feel like they obviously have a warmer seat at the moment.

It's interesting to me how much non Ohio State fans seem to be in touch with the not insignificant portion of the fan base that has wanted Ryan gone for a while, but I don't think "since 2016" is all that fair, it seems to me to have been after 2019, when those great 2018/2019 teams started moving on and we hadn't been able to clip Penn State with them.

Iowa should go big game hunting, outside of the names mentioned, they should also make Casey say no 3 times.   It weakens PSU and makes you better at the same time, i'd pay him double what Cael gets (its not my money 😀) , I mean they have rumored to pay transfers $2M over the last few year.  Imagine if they offered that to Casey instead.

But they also haven't tried to do anything different, yet.  Sticking with Brands but bringing in new (non Iowa) assistance hasn't even been tried.  Brands is still a very good coach, don't need a complete overhaul but doing something, anything different could improve results.

Fair enough.  Although it was going on before 2015. Tom got a break after...

I've been tuned into OSU wrestling forums for the last thirty years?  Don't fool yourself. It will be Jaggers, unless he retires first...

Question for tOSU fans. What is it that you don’t like with Ryan? Why the portion of the fan base wanting to run him out of town for the last decade?

I have my gripes/issues with TanTom and I struggle with them, he just says some stuff that he shouldn’t. Mouth and brain not working together. But performance wise he puts out good teams that contend yearly. I can see where maybe expectations aren’t met because you recruit much better than you perform typically. But just curious what it is?

Agreed with the need to bring in new coaches who didn't wrestle for Iowa in the past. Don't see that happening unless the AD steps in.

It makes no sense to to me. Who is the best coach so far in tOSU history??

Full of un-bias blasphemy.

Personally, I would take Terry Brands off the bench. Put him in charge of the HWC. Keep Tom and bring in someone with new ideas. You need a non-Iowa guy to bounce ideas off of. I don't know the dynamic, but I am guessing neither Morningstar nor Telford have to juice to challenge Tom on things.

Bring in new assistance and I think Tom as HC is fine.

Iowa should take a run at Vincenzo Joseph as an assistant.

3X finalist, 2X champ, wrestled for Cael Sanderson and Casey Cunningham at PSU/NLWC, coached at ASU with Zeke Jones and Rob Koll at Stanford/UNC, now at Lehigh with Pat Santoro.  All great coaches that have put wrestlers on top of the podium; likely picked up a lot from those he was coached by and with.

Cenzo had a physical style but definitely not an Iowa style that's being wrestled currently in IC. He'd likely have a solid impact on that proud Hawkeye program.

The Brands are control freaks.   They would never bring in anyone with different opinions or techniques.

Their program was hurt by the portal more than any other.  Woods, Eierman, Caliendo, Buchanan...hid the fact that the program is irrelevant.

This one is an Iowa thread! 🤣
