I should have said "nobody with aspirations" dreams of wrestling for Iowa.  I was generous going to 15 years when it's really less than 10 year cycles that matter and probably as low as 6-7 years.  Do you really think a 16 year old recruit cares about wrestlers like Metcalf if they even know who he is?

"Very solid" recuiting classes drop Iowa even further behind schools that sign "great" recruiting classes.  Iowa's never catching Penn State.  Oklahoma State blew by them like they were standing still, Virginia Tech is zipping by as we speak, Ohio State hammered them in a dual and they lost to ISU for the first time since any recruit has been alive...

Iowa is irrelevant.

From a big fan of the 'zipping by' team, I'd be happy if we became consistently as 'irrelevant' as Iowa has been the last 10-15 years...

You cannot be serious. Stop trolling we all get it. Iowa hasn't wrestled up to there standard for 4 years. SHOCKING NEWS. find a different dead horse to beat. But to claim a program like VT is zipping by anyway because of some commitments from kids who had already committed to other schools and left once. Please. That literally actual nonsense.

Full of un-bias blasphemy.

I think more there "irrelevant" Iowa is squandering resources this because "they can". I think that is something strategically that is hurting them. Example, not focusing more energy and resources on a top tier RTC.

WrestleStat often posts head-scratching and even absurd predictions based on their own data.  Here's the prediction at 285 between PSU and Iowa:  Cole Mirasola over Ben Keuter 6-4 despite the fact that Mirasola is 1-2 against common opponents (including Feldman) and Keuter is 4-1.

Is there a way that they can correct this stuff?

Mirasola could conceivably pull out a close win, but the predictive data doesn't support that result right now.

Keuter is a terrible match up for Cole.  Ben wins this one comfortably

WrestleStat is really high on Cole Mirasola.   I just checked their prediction for his match against Feldman in the PSU-Ohio State dual.

They have it this way: WrestleStat Prediction: Cole Mirasola (Penn State) over Nick Feldman (Ohio State) DEC 6 - 5

Crazy, given that Mirasola lost 10-3 to Feldman a year ago, and he is 0-4 against common opponents while Feldman is 6-0.

So much for artificial intelligence (and algorithms).  I will take natural intelligence (where ... or while it still exists).

@andegre has explained it before with how the algo works. Would be nice to get him back on here

Interesting how it works with #999 Jax Forrest.  He loses to a bunch of guys 1-0 or beats some guys 9-8.   🤔

He’s a better wrestler than Davino.

Davino beat Ayala handily.

Using Transitive Property for wrestling is the worst predictor for a match.  Every PSU fan should have that drilled into their brains after the Dake/Taylor era.

I'd love a Blaze major decision but let's keep it realistic.  Take the Davino result out and then explain why there's a good chance he gets the major

I missed that.  Can he or you briefly summarize how it (often doesn't) work(s)?   The 285 bouts I mentioned are so patently straightforward that an algorithm shouldn't mess them up

Oh man, I remember that thread back from the onthemat days.  I believe similar to ELO ratings in Chess.  Can't really remember.  I rarely if ever pay attention to wrestlestat rankings or predictions

Maybe Jimmy is inputting his own data and wrestlestat has been compromised

Iowa was the most recent team to win a championship and has had more AAs and finalists than any team not named PSU. I don recall if they have more individual champs, Ill have to update the Google sheet, but it's definitely razor thin (other than PSU, to be clear). If that makes Iowa irrelevant, then what does that make the other teams? It's fine if you think that PSU is the only "relevant" team. But if that's the case then it's pretty weird to dog on Iowa when, as of this point, every other team has performed worse

Very well stated!  Totally agree

Seidel is the real deal, Henson is obvious, Gaj and Sasso could high AA in a year and Burton isn't a slouch, Ventresca has a year left..Even without Bassett and Miller they'll beat Iowa at next year's finals if they don't this year.  With both, they'll crush Iowa.

Iowa hasn't won a full field tournament since before some current recruits were alive.  That's irrelevant.

I'm not saying VT isn't stout this year, but to say that they are flying past any top 4 program is crazy, tOSU, okie st, and Iowa are the only ones to challenge cael in the last decade. Yes VT is stout, I love ventresca, hanson is an animal, sasso is alright, siedel surprised me. But we are talking about an Iowa program that would likely still beat them in a head on dual. TBF I would agree with you that they have a possibility to beat Iowa in the finals, but Iowa always blows it in March. As far as talent for talent they aren't blowing past a program. And when was the last major tourney (finals) VT won again. U keep keep saying Iowa hasn't won recently..... Well neither has VT. So there is no argument there. As of rn. VT is just as irrelevant as Iowa. And everyone else. Until Carl leaves

Iowa will go to the portal when ever they want. If this was pre portal era, I would agree with you. Iowa reloads from the portal when they don't develop guys, which means they reload alot. Which means you can try to tell me VT is gonna be way better than everyone... Except you can't because you don't know who is gonna transfer or when.
