Just behind Starocci losing to DJ Washington

I have a childhood friend who's like the 48th person in his family to go to Penn St; he's an alum but one of those "got into wrestling when the wrestling team got good" kinda folks (he admits it but he has made an effort to learn the sport and the notable guys on other teams so I let it slide) but I remember telling him the Starocci kid was going to be one to watch and he should be excited about his debut so my friend was all hyped up about it and Washington just throws Starocci all over the place.  My buddy thought I was just messing with him.

How good is Posada?  Between this and losing a wrestleoff, Merrill hasn’t been super impressive.  But almost the entire rest of the team has been…

Last night I was only "adding" drama" to this match, regardless of how good(OR not good) Merrill was (OR Posada.)

That's all.

(But I do agree, that for the most part DT is facing his team in the right direction.)

Wow, OSU looking pretty solid right out of the gate.

Spratley - looked sharp! Had a sweet anklepick.

FIgs - needs to work on his conditioning/strength Nice comeback by Knox.

Vega - I had no idea who this guy was. Squirrelly as hell, which is good.

Valencia made Swiderski wear lipstick and a wig. Total domination.

Robideau - Fantastic match. This kid is lightning.

Lockett = farmboy strong, great athleticism. Needs to work on his aggression and take more shots. Daton Fix 2.0

Facundo - did about as well as I'd expect against a "B" team level wrestler

Ryder didn't impress

Merrill failed to impress

Doucet - a stronger, faster version of his older self, with +10% more aggression. I can tell he's still trying to get used to a more aggressive style.

OSU looked pretty good and the FR looked as good as expected, for the most part. Swiderski has no gas tank whatsoever and was utterly dominated by Valencia. Maybe Valencia has made some major progress since last year, but Swiderski stunk up the place. The guys who didn't impress me might not be in wrestling shape yet or something, it's a long season and they can still have great years, obviously.

Do you want to talk about his losses last year to non AA's.. or..?

you didn't know previous national champs can take losses?

The OSU team on the mat showed one thing this year they were missing last year.

Heart.

Last year they looked to be putting in their time, for the most part.

This year they look as if they want to wrestle.

Maybe a new spirit helps instead of a crabby old man frowning at them & asking disgusted while they take the mat?

Hope they keep it up.

Will they beat Iowa?

I literally have no idea what you're even arguing. Do you even have a point?

what was your point when you asked if i knew figeroa took a loss last year? sucks when people argue with whatever context they want doesn't it.

You do realize John Smith wasn't there last year and David Taylor was?

Yep, mistyped again. John was not in good form. Looked like he was pissed during many matches, not like he was supporting his guys.

Even with Taylor the new coach and all the enthusiasm they won't be "there" until they whomp Iowa.

I'm not saying DT isn't doing a great job, but if you're throwing around lines like "once figeroa has some time with Taylor" you're an idiot.

This. This was my point. You followed up this post with..

it was a post on here. I responded by saying "like cam amine".

BY THE WAY Figeroa actually won the national tournament which i guess you didn't know, he just gave up 11 unanswered points, its not good.

So, is your point that DT can't get credit if Figueroa performs well because he is already a national champion? Or is it that he won't improve because Cam Amine still wrestled tight matches? What exactly about saying "once Figueroa has some time with Taylor" makes one an idiot?

From my angle it looks like you're talking out of both sides of your mouth. By using the Amine comparison, you are saying that Figs isn't going to show much improvement this season. But, then in your next breath you're reminding us that he's a former national champion. Maybe you're preparing your deflection if he does improve by reminding us that he was already a champ.. Or the dumbest thing you could be saying would be that he is regressing at OKST because he gave up 11 unanswered points. If so, we don't have to look far to spot the "idiot."

I firmly believe teams take on their coach's attitudes. OSU the last decade or so was a joyless, deadass, low energy experience under John Smith. Now under David Taylor they are wrestling with joy, and I know that sounds kinda goofy. Maybe they are just more energetic because their coach didn't make them pull 20 pounds the minute they walked through the wrestling room doors.

There's a couple crabby old men in Iowa City that need replaced too 😄

Coach Taylor and Coach Roper both have very positive mindsets. Coach Zo is known for that as well with the youth wrestlers. It has to be a great environment for those kids.

Who is Coach Zo? Is that Zahid's nickname or something?

Jesus H. Christ, no wonder they call him coach Zo. No mention on the OSU wrestling page of this guy.

Because he's on the RTC staff, not the university staff.
