1%er's don't go up weight classes to avoid competition.

There are what.  2,400 wrestlers in d1.  Splitting hairs but is he top 24 in that pool?

He'll be top 3 at 141. So he's probably top 30 at least.

I think Mendez still gets close to a major on him tbh

I don't agree - Luke has grown into the weight more and is still improving - I won't say I'm picking him over JM but I think it will be a very competitive match.

Nope. They have been known to duck though...

The original point was that Stanich will not go 149 to avoid having to beat Mendez to win a title. Not whether or not he'd duck him in the regular season. If he goes 149 it's because he's a 149 pounder, not to get an easier road.

It's not like having to deal with Caleb Henson and SVN is a walk in the park.

especially with a style that is largely predicated on being able to move and get your opponent out of position. Henson is a hoss.

He looked like a full sized 70kg (154lb) this summer. He's a beast.

Yeah, I do not think he is making 65kg for olympics unless he has a zain type of cut.

Agreed he is a beast...watching him I was like man, he must have bones like birds do to make the weight based on how he looks.

I'd say so.  Won only 1 state title.  Never would've thought that he would burst onto the scene as quickly as he has following that.

He's tough as nails.

Luke placed in the NJSIAA tournament 4 times...6th, 4th. 2nd, and 1st (106, 113, 120, & 126 respectively.)

Placing 4 x's @ NJSIAA's isn't an easy do at all.

Plus participating in club wrestling , not to mention youth leagues early on, as well.

Like I said... works hard & constantly seeking improvement.

Qualities you want to have in order to succeed.😎

Never argue with an idiot. They will only bring you down to their level and beat you with experience.

Valencia was 2-1 against woods and 6 seconds from being 3-0 I think that bracket probably could have had 3-4 different winners. In terms of wins I believe the Toprak and Dhzandubaev wins are better than any other current domestic 65kg guy has.

Did Mendes beat Toprak?

I stand corrected he did 3-1 in 2023 I will caveat that with it was 17-year-old Toprak but still a great win. Nic bouzakis also beat him in 2022, this kid has been wrestling juniors since he was 16 what a menace.

A menace on the mat and at the cigarette machine.

(also, I have a wrestling friend from Moldova who basically calls every nation' birth certificates into question except for the US.)
