Curious what the context/argument here is. Why does his color important?

Because CNN after seeing this decided to tell America he was "possibility white".

This is very interesting. This is based upon preliminary information and they qualified it with "possibly." It's simply a physical description.

Sounds like the wingers want to make this a racial issue though, as usual. We know that this isn't about CNN having inaccurate preliminary information. This is simply the wingers going out of their way to point out that a shooter belonged to one of those evil minority groups. Racism written all over it, as usual.

Hilarious redirect.  But in all fairness you ain't got much to work with on this one. She had a surveillance video clip she used to make that description off of. This says something about someone and it's not "wingers". Their political bias is so extreme they have become a parody of themselves.

Aaah so if the right said possibly Muslim that’s a dayum  crime.  But when cnn does it it’s an accident.   Got it.

What's very disheartening, and this is a both sides thing not at all isolated to left or right, is that when these mass shootings happen, the first and most important thing everyone wants to talk about is race and/or political leanings.

There are hundreds of millions of people in this country, of all races and political views, the large vast majority of which are good people who would never think of doing anything like this.   So maybe there are bigger issues with these situations to discuss, maybe the core fundamental problem with these people is not race and politics?

They’re saying this guy, like so many others, was under psychiatric care and had his medication in his car.  No mention of the doctor’s name or what the medication was.

You can always guarantee that the wingers will bring up race if some minority commits a crime, particularly that gets national attention like this one. It's 100% guaranteed.
If it's a white guy though, they won't say a thing. Crickets. They may even say that it's "fake news."

It's pretty obvious what's going on here....The winger racism is abundant and stinks to high heaven.

So did cnn do anything wrong?

It was not anyone but CNN that caused this.   They claim a guy is possibly white.   Well that is a pretty good guess because more people in this country are white than any other race.   So they have a really good chance of being right by saying this.   But seeing the pic, it seems a strange way to describe a guy.   Why not say he is possibly black?  Or possibly a middle eastern?  Or possibly south american?   Or possibly an asian?  Or possibly native american?   No, they chose to say possibly white because the most dangerous people in the country are white as a thread on this board already discusses.

If they had said that he was one of these minorities and happened to be white, I can guarantee that the wingers wouldn't have started this thread. THAT'S MY POINT. The racism of the wingers stinks to high heaven.

CNN updated/corrected their description of the shooter and even shows a huge pic of his face on their latest version of the article describing him. They provided whatever info they had at the time and updated it. They've done fine.

It's perfectly fine to say they "may" be the same color when you don't even have a pic of both of them yet.

The wingers really getting their panties in a bundle over this one.

If there is no pic, then why say he is possibly white?   you have no idea but spew forth a possibility.   It doesn't work and they got caught.   They have acknowledged it according to you but did they offer a retraction?  I don't know.   But they wanted so much for it to be a white guy that without even seen a pic they said it was possibly a white guy.   In your geology classes that you taught, I'm sure you said it was perfectly acceptable to identify a rock a person had not seen by saying this unknown mineral was possibly quartz.   I have not seen you and I could say you are possibly an asian cheese head.   I could be right.   I could be wrong.   What is the harm in saying it if I COULD be right?    That is your position and that is the wrong position.   If you don't know, you don't say.   That seems to be the way the world works in general.

I don't know, I'm just asking as I wasn't watching CNN but did have a news station on at the time.   The anchor was taking in information as it was coming in through an ear piece, stating its not confirmed but......for instance one of the reports that came into the earpiece was that the shooter killed himself but the made sure to say that was not confirmed yet.  Is it possible this is what happened with the 'possibly white'.

Again I don't know, just asking the question.   If they said possibly white while at the same time showing this picture, then yeah definitely not a good thing to do.  If not and it was the same process of taking in reports from the site.....well that's something that happens all the time throughout all news networks and not anything for anyone to get excited about, particularly if they corrected once they had confirmed reports.  Some networks continue with lies and false reporting even after confirmed reports.
