WNBA players owe WNBA money for losing money every year.   They might want to start by not beating up the star player of the WNBA every night she plays.    Yes, they deserve more money when they start making a profit.   That's how this works.

The pay me what I’m worth is a WNBA movement, not just an Angel Reese movement, as evidenced in no small part by the entire all star rosters wearing the shirts, including Caitlin Clark. And yet you found yet another reason to start another thread disparaging another black WNBA player.

Should we start talking about Black Female Derangement Syndrome?

Let's pay WNBA players the same money as any man with those same skills.  In other words, they would pay to play in a Tuesday night church league while working a real job.

The world cup soccer chicks complained about their paychecks also.  They sued because they were paid according to a different formula from the men's team.  Forgetting, conveniently, that they had the option to be paid by the exact same formula the men were paid and voted against it!  I think they were suing over the fact that no man interceded and made them vote in their best interest rather than with their feelings.

Interestingly, both the men's team and the women's team would have been better compensated if they had taken the others' pay scheme.

Of course, none of this has anything to do with absolute talent and skill levels.  We all know 15 year old boys will beat the women's national soccer team.  So paying the ladies the same that we pay 15 year olds to play soccer seems to be just mean and curmudgeonly.

I do agree with this statement.   You make a salary based on what is coming into the company.  Unfortunately not enough people have caught on to interest in the WNBA for it to turn a profit.  Hard to make an argument for bigger salary.

Is there a biologist in the house?  We need a ruling that our resident Black Female Supreme Court Justice is unable to determine.

didn’t know this was their beef (below)… other than wanting more $.  They’re pre negotiating.   I know they get a lot of $$$ from the nba but if they really walk why wouldn’t  a smart business owner take the net loss and run…. They’re in for what a 100 million dollar loss by now?

The current CBA expires in October, and tensions are escalating fast. Players have openly hinted that they’re prepared to sit out the 2025 season if a fair deal isn’t struck.

The message from the league’s brightest stars?
They’re done being underpaid — and this time, they’re not bluffing.

Does this spell the end of the WNBA?   If they sit out, why would owners who lose money want to lose more money with higher salaries?

He likes to get involved in sports lately, so I think it's relevant.

The WNBA ownership is a tad different from other leagues

  • NBA - 42%
  • Team Owners - 42%
  • Investment group - 16%

Now I have zero idea of how that is figured into everything, but I didn't realize there was another investment group involved

The WNBA had a net loss of 40 million dollars last year. There are 156 players. Thats a loss of 250K per player. They have been at this for 45 years with net losses every year. In their current form WNBA for 28 years.

Are they still losing money? They just signed a TV contract with ESPN worth $200 million per year, up from $25 million per year. Add in another deal with ION for an undisclosed amount that is certainly a big jump from their old $13 million per year deal and two more expected deals and eatimates run about $260 million per year. Meanwhile three expansion franchises paid $250 million to join the league, up from $50 million. Seems like the old numbers are no longer meaningful.

Then maybe the players have a point.

The WNBA could do themselves a big favor by upgrading their referees. Most knowledgeable fans find the officiating very sub-par. The referees for the women's NCAA basketball games are much, much better.
