Hasn't been discussed here, but this officially came down the pipe this morning.

https://lehighsports.com/news/2025/5/27/lehigh-university-adds-womens-wrestling-as-26th-varsity-sport

Sixth D1 to add the sport, joining Iowa, Presbyterian, Sacred Heart, Lindenwood and Delaware State.
Among NCAA schools, that's now 116 teams. As of this moment, there's 37 Division II schools with the sport and 74 Division III.

Definitely a plus since the academic profile of Lehigh is a draw.

Which of the NCAA schools that have women's teams also have a robust academic program?

Robust is in the eye of the beholder, but at first glance, Lehigh would become the most academically rigorous of all women's wrestling programs in NCAA

after lehigh in some order:

Presbyterian, Ursinus, Muhlenberg, Mount Union, York

According to US News & World Report - this is just looking up what you've got listed and the six D1 schools. I know the rankings are always up for debate, but Iowa probably a strong #2 when it comes to its academic profile.

You wouldn’t put Iowa above any of those?

Yes with that level of involvement perhaps it will be the women who will accomplish what has-been spineless men currently with authority in the sport couldn’t do, and that’s elevate interest in wrestling to a level it deserves.

I just hope we aren't too late for it to really create a positive for schools to have the sport - both men and women.

Right now, Flag Football has added 78 women's teams in just a year across all divisions. NFL behind it. That's actual money pushing it. That's going to be the sport we have to contend with when it comes to adding programs - at the Division I level, adding programs at the P4 level for any sport probably isn't going to happen.

I had no clue that women's flag football was a thing but it does make sense.  Question if you are aware of the answer: in the case of these flag football women's teams, due to Title IX, doesn't that open up an opportunity for adding another men's D1 team of some sport?  My follow up which is an open question is - I wonder what men's programs they are adding if that is happening.
