In addition to the two records that we already know about - 177 points, 10 AA's (tied with 2001 Minnesota), I think PSU set, or tied, at least two other records this week.

3.1 - highest average finish (tied with 1991 Iowa - if you are charitable and assume their blood round loser finished 9th)

48 - most matches won in a single tournament (previous best was 46 by 1992 Iowa)

@cowcards check me on that last one, please

Drowning in data, but thirsting for knowledge

Reading the chaff here I suppose that next March Cael & Co will be solely judged by their ability to exceed this year's finish. Soon anything less than all 10 in the top 3 will be deemed "failure" - how will the PSU coaching staff handle all the pressure ? I suspect they'll start by not reading anything posted here....but I do and I appreciate the history you pointed out.

Often wrong, but never in doubt.

Would total freshmen finalists be another (record)?

They obviously don't always win it but Cael & Co get freshmen into the finals who typically work their way into being 4X AAs (and usually a national championship or 2, 3, 4, 5).

I could care less about any of these records ... what's the win/brick ratio?  Of course I realize dividing by zero is hard math.

Has the 3pt takedown making it easier to achieve bonus points affected this year’s total? I remember a match where Davis was ahead by 1 and guy goes for broke and Davis ends up with td and backs to win by 8. Just one example I could think of but as you can see it could add up.

Ok, let’s download the data and run it through AI to figure what PSU would score in 1991.

I’m thinking they would crush everybody and have 10 National Champions in 91.

No one noticed that I got one of these wrong. PSU's average finish was 3.0 rather than than the 3.1 I originally stated.

So that have that record by themselves too.

We all did, immediately, but appreciate the effort so much that we didn't want to say anything.

Hard to say. Bonus points are very volatile from year to year making it difficult to establish a baseline. But when I looked at it last year the impact appeared to be that majors are more prevalent, but there are fewer pinfalls because there are more tech falls.

I will be checking that again for this year.

Cael has failed to deliver any more than four in a row. He’s done it three times. What else does he have left to accomplish as a coach? Scoring record. Check. 10AAs. Check. National champ at every weight. Check. Five champs (tied for most in a year). Check.

I guess five in a row and more than five champs are the next goals?

He’s also coached athletes who won five titles on down to one.

True dat. Did the PSU corner even throw the brick during the tournament?

I do not remember one but missed many of their earling matches.

I'm pretty sure there's a data wizard on these here boards who has a chart.  If only we knowsomething about how to contact.  Can someone turn on the Wkn-Signal?

PSU also tied the 1991 Iowa team for the most top 3 finishers with 8.

Because I did not want to hurt @ionel's feelings I included the % of available weights. Oklahoma State still holds that record from back when teams used Conestoga wagons to get to the venue and traveled with at least 20 wrestlers in case any died from dysentery along the way.

I have 92' & 97' Iowa with 46. 01' MN & 24' PSU with 45, 83' IA with 44 as the top-5.

92' Iowa: Brands & Steiner bros had 5 each, Chelesvig - 6, Fiser - 4, Oostendorp - 5, Reiland - 2, Ryan - 5, Zaputil - 4. You'll want to double-check that i mathed right on those too. Ha

i respect your work completely and really appreciate all your digging

however, the team that did it first IS ALWAYS on top.

the team that ties, did it second...

just saying

lol

Huh, as a PSU fan I have no idea how that sort on year from largest to smallest could have happened. I will get the interns working on that.
