Been reported that Zelenskyy had two previous chances to sign the mineral deal that he didn't need to come to DC to do so but we know how "reporting" goes these days.

I also saw no reason for Vance in the room, was not helpful.

I am sure that a deal could have been signed without a trip to Washington.  What I doubt is if the deal had been hammered out to what either side thought was it's final form before the trip. The drafts that have been reported on were vague both in terms of what money the US would get from the mineral fund and what the US would provide in terms of security.  Those seem like the most important parts to both parties.

Vance added absolutely nothing to the affair.  Why demand a thank you?  Letting a lack of a thank you kibosh a deal to end a war doesn't jump out to me as master negotiation.  I wonder if Vance will make similar demands of Putin...

Everyone knows a JD Vance in their work life, the weasley douche who sits back in meetings acting like he knows it all, waiting for the opportunity to chime in with some stupid corporate speak comment or gotcha to try and look good in front of the boss. Oftentimes repeats what the boss or somebody else has said before word for word in the past for a pat on the back. Likes using big words. Will weasel out of being confronted when the boss isn't around.

Absolutely cancer for the team dynamics. F*ck JD Vances.

If the deal hadn't been hammered out then I don't know why Zelenskyy would've thought they'd reached a new deal in front of the media.  I was expecting the mineral deal would imply (without being stated) that US would protect their companies and investment.  There was no expectation they would provide blanket security for Ukraine.  They minerals were for passed support not necessarily future.  But once US companies were involved it means a certain level of security to protect the investment

I asked a question.  I did not make any claims.

With little doubt Trump and his administration were responsible for the media being at this meeting.  I have to guess but I think Zalensky was willing to sign the mineral rights deal and is open to a cease fire, but without security guarantees of some form there is not much point in doing either.  There likely was some disagreement in private before this meeting which had not been made public.   I would be surprised if the problem of Zalensky wanting security guarantees and Trump only offering the guarantee that "Putin has not broken a deal with me" failed to come up.  Why go through with the press Q and A on a deal with such an apparent problem?  Doesn't seem like a solid idear to me.  Wait until you have an agreement ready to sign.

Does anybody else here realize that for the U.S. to commit to the “concrete security guarantees” that Zelensky repeatedly calls for is the recipe, the first step on a short path to WWIII?  Nobody in their right mind trusts that once obtained, Zelensky wouldn’t go on the attack, forcing everybody’s hand.  Trump’s instincts are phenomenal.  Zelensky’s best position is right where he is, or has been.  No elections means he can’t lose his job, which is distributing billions of dollars every month or two.  While the minimum draft age is 26, the average age of their armed forces is 43.  Do you want to see our 18-25 year olds over there to face off against Russia and North Korea?  For what?  Lithium?

Zelensky was litigating in front of the media.  For which he was rightly rebuked.

lol at calling that “litigating.”  Pretty much all he was saying was that in the past Putin had not honored ceasefires.

I watched the whole thing and Vance is definitely the reason it went south.  He barely talked, and I think the second time he did was when he started complaining about Zelenskyy being disrespectful and “litigating,” and accusing him of not saying thank you during this specific meeting (which he did, so Vance was also wrong there).

Zelenskyy was not disrespectful prior to that IMO, but he was after that when he made the implication that the US would get attacked if they didn’t stop Russia.  That was the point that Trump rightfully got upset.  But it probably doesn’t get to that point if Vance isn’t such a dbag.

Wouldn’t a dictator controlled nation invading a democratic sovereign nation it has no business being in, be that first step?  That’s how these things have begun in the past…

Until you fellas comprehend a little better, dialogue in one case and history in the other, you’re not going to understand the events nor the actions and reactions of the participants.

Do you acknowledge that Vance was wrong when he said Zelenskyy hadn’t said thank you?

You may have missed it, but I said Zelensky said he must have said thank you 350 billion times.

A "concrete guarantee" still has exceptions for extreme situations like this. Nothing is 100.00000% guaranteed in real life but nice strawman argument.

This is another case of not knowing the lingo.  For you and anyone else who isn’t getting it, “concrete security guarantees” means nuclear missiles in layman’s speech.  Zelensky wants nuclear missiles in Ukraine, pointed at Putin, with his finger on the trigger.

So you're against NATO? If Russia invades other European allies we should just step aside?

Israel is the one exception though?
