I searched “Suloev Stretch” on x and all the results are guys trying to use it as a submission in MMA fights.  Is this legal? Should it have been stopped sooner for PD?  If not, should he have gotten NF swipes?  I could see the argument for no NF, although I’m shocked the Stanford coaching staff didn’t argue harder for them.

Looks like a funky variation of a Spladle. See Rick Sanders in the ‘72 Olympics at the 1:20 mark, pinning his opponent with a spladle. Ends up in similar position as Knox v Orine.

It wasn’t a spladle.  I believe Rock Harrison even called that out on the broadcast

It's a variation of a spladle....just because "Rock" said it wasn't, doesn't mean he's right.  Not that what I say is the Gospel, but what he said isn't either.  I'd bet Wade Schalle, Shane Sparks, Jim Gibbons, John Smith and Jordan Burroughs would all agree with me.

Sure it has some similarities, but it’s a different move.  Probably the biggest difference being the pulling the ankle all the way back like that - which is primarily what raised more of my questions around it being potentially dangerous

There is no way that this should have been able to continue. Orine could have easily suffered torn muscle/ligaments. I don't think it's malicious but every time I was Tyler Knox wrestle it seems like there is a position where he is close to injuring someone. When he wrecked Cory Land's knee at CKLV it was easy to see it coming from a mile away. I remember watching the match and being frustrated along with Schwab that the ref didn't stop the action sooner.

Edit: I don't understand why he called PD at the end of the video when the position was essentially the same for 30 seconds.

100%.

This is a move that was made popular in an mma setting because it was such a wild adaptation to falling off the back with legs in.  But it is a brutal move.  The only reason that ref isn't being torn a new one and this isn't a new rule in officiating is because Orine has an immaculate mobility and flexibility program.  Him not being on the ground with a hamstring torn off the bone was one of the most impressive things I've seen this year.

Ajamain sterling tore Cody stamanns knee up with a suloev stretch. I'm not sure if it's something where you can monitor the torque on the knee but it's definitely a risky position. Super creative by Knox though.

I've never been in this position and am really flexible, but I'm honestly not sure if it would wreck your knee or hamstring first. I feel like my hamstring would blow before my knee felt much

knox's move is from having both boots in. dc's spladle is from hooking his near leg with metclafs near leg then going over top. his right leg is out in the open. knox still has his boot in

they arent the same

I didn't say they were the same.....it's a variation of a spladle......just like there's variations of cradles...including a banana split cradle.  Fadz

Well...at least we can all agree Metcalf was pinned!

(Seriously though...I'm not sure how he wouldn't be...it wasn't his shoulder blades or the upper part of his back, but...doesn't have to be).

Ahh well...to bad we never got to see them go at it again😉

Sure.  And a high crotch is a variation of a double leg
