Right now our boy @Husker_Du is living it up as his team from Washington has made the NFC championship game on the back of the best rookie QB in history where they will play the trashbag Philadelphia Eagles, while we get Mahomes-Allen part 36 (or so it feels like) in the AFC.   I actually think Washington is a very live dog in the NFC, Philly QB Jalen Hurts seems...well, hurt.  I'm rooting hard for Allen and the Bills to break through against Mahomes but....well, it's Mahomes.  If I had to bet, I'd bet Philly and KC straight up, but Washington and KC against the spread.

We're in between games, though, so today some notable hires were the Jets hiring Aaron Glenn as HC and the Raiders hiring John Spytek from Tampa Bay as their new GM (he was there when Brady won the Super Bowl).  Some obvious connections may lead to Liam Coen, Tampa Bay's OC, following him there, though reporting has Coen signing a new deal to stay in Tampa as their OC.

I love me some Mahomes, but I think I am pulling for Buffalo in this one. Washington, too.

But you buried the lede.

Somehow the Bears were able to see what no one else could see. They have identified Ben Johnson as the worst coaching hire of the decade. I know this to be true because the Bears hired him. How could everyone else think Johnson was the "IT" hire this season? Time for some talent evaluation departments to get evaluated.

I did find myself thinking that I liked both Ben Johnson and Aaron Glenn as head coaches, but now they're in Chicago and the Jets, so obviously they will fail spectacularly.

Trent Baalke just fired as Jaguars GM, weird timing suggesting that the coaching candidates (they were turned down by Liam Coen that we know of, so far) were...balking at working with him.

Probably.  Although at one point the jets hired two of the greatest head coaches of all time back to back (Parcells and Belichick).

Super happy so far with the Patriots rebuild of the coaching staff this offseason

Mayo was never fit to be the head coach, he lacked experience and was horrible all around (and I say this as a person who has his jersey from when he played). It's one thing to expect to lose but see progress and it's one thing to lose and see zero progress, Mayo was in that zero progress side of things.

Vrabel should have been the hire day one - he's removed enough from Bill Belichick to be his own man but close enough to New England to know expectations. He has already cut his teeth outside of the organization and has shown he can be a great head coach.

I know some people won't like the Josh McDaniels hire, but I'm a huge fan of it. For starters, he will never be poached and that was a huge concern for me hiring a defensive head coach (losing the o coordinator to a head coaching job). Second, while Josh is a horrible head coach, he is above average to great coordinator and with Drake Maye going into his second season, we need some stability there (honestly Alex Van Pelt wasn't bad, I was fine keeping him around). I don't know much about the new d coordinator, but anyone is better than the Mayo/Covington combination.

Now if we could fire Eliot Wolf into the sun (with Matt Groh) that would make the coaching staff rebuild perfect. Wolf's first draft was beyond bad, with pretty much every pick a miss outside of Maye. He (and Groh) have been part of the brain trust with the recent bad drafts and now they are on their own outside of BB and the drafts are still crap.

And there we have it, seems like we're on track for Coen to go to the Jags now that Baalke is (finally) out.
