I'm not arguing that Rivera sucks. They guy went 115-20 for his career and finished 6/3/4/3. He's very good. I just think Mendez is better.

You are correct, sir. Mendez is better.

Ive decided a solution for how Ohio State can win it, mind you it can also result in them losing by a very large margin

Mccrone: 125
Davino: 133 (I think he still has a date)
Bouzakis: 141 (I think he can beat Block but he is going to be much much smaller
Mendez: 149 (I think Mendez can go up and win this one despite the size discrepancy
rest of the weights chalk

I think this gives them their best shot at the first 4 weights Feldman should win and 174 they can win as well they will still have to dodge big bonus at potentially 165 and 197

I really doubt it, last time Bouzakis was bumped (against crook from VT i believe) he got absolutely killed, his style just can't take a size disadvantage. Mendez ain't beating parco up a weight.

We're talking about Bouzakis' 5th college match in his true freshman year as evidence for how he'd do over 2 years later?

I'd favor Bouzakis to win against Block, and I think Mendez vs Parco is a toss-up as well. I don't see Mendez getting bullied in the hand fight, and he's such an efficient finisher I don't think he's likely to get stuck underneath.

Either way, it would make for an even more interesting dual.

OSU needs 125 obviously but that match worries me. Mccrone has been on a little skid and I can definitely see Cruz being able to take him down. Wouldn’t be surprised if Cruz won by decision or if McCrone pins him

I like it, and agree it’s probably their best shot

If the outcome of this dual had any real importance, I wouldn't be surprised if we saw them take their shot and do it. Unfortunately, the dual is for nothing but pride.

I believe Ryan does care about duals.

But even as far as NCAA implications go, the main question is whether or not he wants Bouzakis to wrestle Ayala.   If guys bump and lose it won’t impact their seed.  And wins over Cruz and Block don’t do much for those guys.  D’Emilio would be a heavy underdog to Parco so using Mendez instead saves a loss for D’Emilio, so that’s one reason to do it even considering NCAA seeding.

Bouzakis still doesn't have a style that translates up a weight, and this is 2025 top 3 recruits are typically college ready.

It would be interesting from a science fiction point of view but its not happening.

What match are we talking about?  Tom Crook?  Crook did win 2 matches at NCAA’s that year.  Small sample size and he has time to improve, but Block may be lucky to qualify at his current rate.  I’d pick Bouzakis over him.

Seeding implications aren't what I was thinking. It's the increased risk of injury wrestling up a weight class. Imagine Mendez getting hurt by wrestling up to win an essentially meaningless dual.

yeah I can't say i'd be surprised. Certainly not an opinion i'd scoff at.

Class of 2019 #3 Andrew Alirez didn't AA until his fourth year when he won nationals.

Class of 2020 #1 Braxton Amos hasn't AA'd. #3 Patrick Kennedy has not AA'd

Class of 2021 #2 Alex Facundo hasn't AA'd #3 Paddy Gallagher hasn't AA'd

Class of 2022 is the only class in the last four where the top three have achieved AA status with Feldman, Swiderski, and Mendez. (Bouzakis was #4)

Fair enough.  I don’t think the injury risk by bumping is really higher than your typical weight, but I understand your opinion

Bumping Mendez is their only shot at winning the dual.  I think DDE got majored by parco last time they wrestled. As good as parco is, Mendez is next level. Dude beat yanni and was right there with Zain to make the Olympic team.  Zain and yianni are two of the best 149 pounders of all time. Mendez will be just fine up a weight.  I think they should use bouzakis at 133 and Davino at 141.

I'll be rooting for Ohio State, but let's face the fact that Iowa is going to hammer them into the mud. It would be cool seeing Davino wrestle.

What does hammering them into the mud look like? I haven't seen any predictions what would be a "hammering."

I think it means Iowa will be implementing their standard CHA club & stall tactics.
