Steveson’s domination just doesn’t get me pumped really. Him getting a Redshirt while in the WWE is garbage.

There are a bunch of guys still wrestling in the NCAA from the same high school class as him.  Are you upset about all of them too?

A bunch? The only wrestlers from the class of 2018 still wrestling in college are in their seventh year thanks to two redshirts and the covid-year. If the rules allow it, sobeit, but I think guys wrestling in college for a span of seven years is a little preposterous.

And even more preposterous is granting an Olympic Redshirt to a healthy athlete who didn't even attempt to make the team.

I know you're a fan, but you have to understand that it's a little ridiculous, though not against the rules apparently.

Edit: Not too often you see the big boy cradle.

I think Teemer, Michael Beard, & Steveson are the only 7th year wrestlers ranked in the top 10 for their weights.  There are a bunch of 6th year wrestlers.  I think most of us are looking forward to the covid era coming to an end

I know I am. Luckily this will be the first mass exodus of covid-year wrestlers. There will still be a good number, but a lot of guys will be clearing out.

The number one wrestler at 125, 141, 157, 174, 184, 197, and 285 will all be done, if I'm not mistaken, to list a few.

Nelson Brands, Jacori Teemer, Gable Steveson, Sammy Sasso, Brock Hardy (just a Jr.), Michael Beard, Gavin Hoffman, Seth Nevills, Jakob Comacho, all graduated in 2018 and are still competing in college.

As far as Olympic redshirt, someone like Gable who actually won an Olympic gold medal and won the '23 national FS world team trials certainly deserves one more than Ferarri, a 23-year-old sophomore who didn't wrestle freestyle at all last cycle.

It is possible to deserve it more while still not deserving it at all. The ORS should not be a lifetime achievement award.

I, too, am in the camp that does not care for the Olympic redshirt for someone who did not attempt to qualify for the Olympics. There should be a trials attendance requirement with an appeals process to allow for injured athletes.

That said, nothing will change because the NCAA has lost interest in applying existing eligibility rules, nevermind creating new ones, due to their losing streak in court.

To sort of prove your point, 100*0=0, just like 5*0=0.  Not deserving is simply just not deserving.

From someone who is definitely not a fan of him as a person, I am pumped to see him because he is the best wrestler on the planet this millennium and our overall product of wrestling, regardless of styles, is better when he is wrestling.

His shtick may be annoying, but to deny that the talent, ability, and performances aren't up to snuff is a personal thing for you as well as anyone else who is 'Meh' about it.  The mfckr is the best in the highest weight class (weight classes exist for a reason).

As an aside, and not just a direct response to you but to anybody who things they deserve to have an opinion:  The only people who deserve an opinion on ORS are those who have earned it and those who are making the legislation/rules about it.  Otherwise, it's whinging by definition.  It could easily be argued that he is in the same class of 2019, because he did, in fact, earn the ORS.  That means for every class of 2019 graduate who did not, he deserves the same eligibility.

Where did anyone say a word about doubting how great of a wrestler Gable is? That's not even part of the discussion.

What? He earned an Olympic redshirt so now we're going to pretend like he didn't compete in college in 2019? I'm sorry but that makes no sense.

You're just ignoring the fact that it's ridiculous to grant an Olympic redshirt, where the entire purpose is to allow an athlete to take a year off in pursuit of their Olympic goals, to an athlete who is not even participating in the sport. There is a difference between qualifying for an Olympic redshirt and deserving an Olympic redshirt.

This isn't about Gable. It's about any athlete that decides to leave college for two years to pursue other ventures and then somehow gets their eligibility preserved. Use it or lose it.

You are entitled to an opnion.

As I said, your opnion doesn't matter, which is my opinion as well.  He earned it.  It is up to him to determine you to spend it.  If you earn a $25,000 bonus at your place of employment and you don't use it within a year, do other people get to determine if they want to take it back?

Sure. We can agree to disagree. I fundamentally disagree that an Olympic redshirt should be spent however the athlete wants to. It's literally granted for the pursuit of Olympic dreams, not as a year off for a qualified athlete to spend galivanting.
