Ono and Spencer are slated to wrestle February 26th in iowa city at 61kg. I have never in my life thought I would say the words I think spencer may get killed but I just can't see how he keeps this one close.

Ono and Spencer will be at a catch weight between 57 and 61kg.

Zahid and Brooks will be at 92.

Sounds great, what happens when the feed cuts?

It would be a bummer, but what do you suggest? Rokfin? That platform is a joke. ESPN would be nice but I don't think they can be bothered.

For what it's worth, I don't recall the last Flo event I watched that had issues. They deserve criticism when events go bad but my experiences have been all positive for some time now

I didn't experience that but now that you mention it, I recall reading about issues. Fair enough. I'm hoping this event goes off without a hitch.

Feed went out during Burroughs loss.  At risk of being a Flo apologist, people who were in the arena said there was no internet service whatsoever during that time period.  I'm sure people would be a bit more forgiving and understanding if that were an isolated incident.

If ifs and buts were candy and nuts we'd all have a nice Christmas. But I'll be damned Santa Flo thinks we all deserve a lump of coal in our stocking every time they broadcast an event

Great to see Spencer back on the mat, even if it's vs. Ono. A lot of people were talking like he might hang it up after Paris. Looks like he's still got the fire burning.

I know he really wants to wrestle hes on frl today for the first 20 minutes or so he actually has 2 comps before the Ono match. Sounds like Ono may actually be able to go 57kg in 2028 which is a horrifying prospect considering he would probably be a top 10 guy in the world with his results at 65kg he wrestled Kiyooka for the olympic spot for Japan.

The only people saying Lee was going to hang it up are haters. Only a person as tough as, well, Spencer Lee could bounce back from everything he has been through physically and emotionally. Dude is tougher than hell and I don't care what any results are and how many ACLs he tears, I'm picking him to win 2025 worlds. He's going to be a DAWG next September.

I want him to run the gauntlet through 2028, but I also think as a nation we need him to. Our depth at 57kg is a bit abysmal at the moment, all the young guys from trials have or will probably outgrow with the exception of maybe Luke. I could see deluca,Knox,Luke being guys by 2028 pushing for the spot and guys to be confident in, but I think they all still need a few years of development before I would be confident that they are medal threats at the senior level.

Found this on youtube. Nolf talks about his experience rolling with Spencer, his observations on both Spencer and Ono, and his prediction. Very interesting stuff.

I wish I shared Nolf's overflowing confidence in a Spencer win (he even said a tech was possible). I'll pick Spencer because it is in my contract but I'm very nervous about this match. Ono's speed and low level attacks seem tailor made to beat Spencer.

This is where I am too, except for one thing:  the fact that Spencer's wrestled this guy in practice before.  I think he was getting the better of Ono, despite being in lousy shape.  Do you really think Spencer would have agreed to bump up to face a defending world champ, in a main event, unless he had reason to think he'd come out on top?  Do you think Brands would bless the match if he thought Spencer would lose, considering the funk Spencer seems to go into when he loses?

That's really hard for me to believe.  Not that Spencer's prone to ducking, but I can't think of any other occasion in high school, college or freestyle where he's bumped up or changed weights to seek out a top opponent.  Why would he do it now?  Especially given the confidence issues that have plagued him.

So my theory is Spencer was beating Ono when they wrestled in Japan, and Spencer and coaches see this as a chance to boost his confidence going into this next cycle.

Of course, even if I'm right, it may well be that Ono has gotten way better since then and/or wasn't giving 100% in practice.  But that history, brief as it was, is the wild card that makes me think Ono isn't necessarily the favorite that he looks like on paper.

That was 2 years ago and the "bump" is like 5 pounds, not a full weight class up

Maybe I'm naive but I think both guys just want to compete and see where they're at and how the other guy feels going live

How long has Otoguro been at the Hawkeye Wrestling Club rolling with Spencer? At least a month. He comes from the same room as Ono, and they trained with the same coach. Spencer is very familiar with Ono's offense. The question is can he stop it? Ono seems to have more speed, but Spencer has more strength. It should be a great match.

Ono is strong.  Lee beats strong.  Ono is fast.  Lee beats fast.  Ono is strong and fast.  Ono has improved.  Ono crushed Uguev.  Ono techs Lee.  JRoss bet be wrong.

Who is Ono rolling with in the PSU room? I assume Ono made plans to train at PSU to be near Cael & Casey, and maybe practice with Gilman. But Gilman's gone and Cael, Casey, and Nick are busy with the college season. I'm not sure what he's getting out of training at Penn State that he doesn't get in Japan, aside from maybe getting some folkstyley feels and dodging projectiles coming his way.

I think Fix and Ono would be a pretty good match too, mostly because RBY's style is closer to Ono's and it would be interesting to see if it helps him to gameplan against zippy guys who work from space.

As for the match, Ono is a boss, but Spencer can win by owning the center of the mat, getting Ono called for passivity, and forcing him to engage. The counterattacks and scrambles will be fireworks both ways.
