Funny, someone was just telling me over the weekend how Gatorade today tastes way different than it did in the 80s or 90s. The flavors are good, but they're all sickly sweet. I remember it being much more savory. I make my own electrolyte drink to consume after long rides or hikes with the same ingredients that @Warm Up Champ posted. Liquid IV hydration multiplier also has a diy recipe which is the same if not very very similar.

Had a trainer tell me that a mix of 1/2 water and 1/2 Gatorade is excellent for after weigh-ins.  Only half the cost of Gatorade too.  🫤

When I get dehydrated which happens from time to time, my wife boils water with a little salt and sugar and lets it cool.  Then I drink it at room temp or just slightly warmer.  When I can't hold even water down, that's the best stuff.

I have flavorless electrolytes that i put in my water and with enough lemon juice it does taste like old gatorade. Never used sugar. Thought about adding honey but never had. Just electrolytes, water and as much lemon as you want for taste does the trick for me.

It's wild how "electrolytes" were rebranded into "hydration multiplier" to sell product to today's sports & fitness crowd. The CEO of one of those brands said the margins are insane because it's pretty much just Kool-Aid and salt. Sometimes potassium also.

I think the OG Gatorade would taste unpleasant to a lot of today's Gatorade drinkers.

Also GatorGum was such a great spittin' gum. Better than Jolly Ranchers. I haven't seen it around in ages though and assume it's no longer made.

It's still made. Called Quench now

Sounds silly, but I did actually find that this was true after years of full on gatorade.  Gatorade is sweetened to commercial liking, not to hydration efficiency.

Diluted gatorade and chocolate chip pancakes were the best post-weight cut food I ever had.  It took a few years to figure out, but it led to the best wrestling performances of my life hands down.

Of note, it was only effective in caloric depletion.

I generally start with two bottles Gatorade/water, one 60/40 the other 40/60 blend.  If long ride/century then 75 to 100  mi one bottle 50/50 coke/Gatorade and one bottle ice cold water.  Post ride chocolate milk &/or pickle juice.

Sad to say that in some part due to the silly things I did to cut weight in high school, my stomach and digestive system took a turn for the worse as an adult.  When I get something like food poisoning or a stomach bug - it turns me into a zombie

Im sure the margins are nice but the electrolytes i buy contain potassium, sodium, magnesium, and calcium. No sugar no flavoring. Its nothing like kool aid at all.

As a cyclist, I've used all of the above, including pickle and beet juice, and chocolate milk/chocolate Yahoo.  Fizzed out coke for a finish kick.  A source of potassium certainly will help with cramping.  I use bottles for road and gravel, which are easy to clean for mixes.  Not so for long mtb races and using a bladder, or bottle combo.  Some of the best cycling racers I know are former wrestlers.  Grinding is grinding!

I was talking about those flavored Liquid IV type hydration multiplier drink mixes. What brand is your electrolyte drink? It sounds pretty good.
