now Figueroa is out til December, Schultz wrestles like a top 5 opponent is just an post practice open mat casual roll. What's going on in Tempe.

Also, did Kaleb Larkin spontaneously combust? He's supposed to be an AA candidate, where is he???

ASU lost their biggest and possibly only financial backer of wrestling. The writing is on the wall. No more Sunkist money flowing in, scant NIL deals that go through the ASU "collective", which given that the football coach has basically performed a miracle by tripling the win total from each of the last two seasons and has them in the discussion for being in the playoffs, he is going to get whatever of it he asks for. Certain people saw that there should have been a change a few years ago and it was strongly hinted this would happen, but nobody did anything to try to avoid it. If Figueroa stays next year I'll be shocked. ASU is sadly going to regress a lot unless they somehow get Bassett to commit and sign.

This isn't accurate.

Whoever orchestrated ASU to the B12 after the B1G poached the P12's top four teams is the person responsible for the jump.

ASU 2024-25 Schedule so far...
Result - Opponent (W/L)
W48-7 - Wyoming (2W - 9L)
W30-23 - Mississippi State (2W - 9L)
W31-28 - Texas State (6W - 5L)
L30-22 - Texas Tech (7W - 4L)
W35-31 - Kansas (5W - 6L)
W27-19 - Utah (4W - 7L)
L24-14 - Cincinnati (5W - 6L)
W42-21 - Oklahoma State (3W - 8L)
W35-21 - UCF (4W - 7L)
W24-13 - Kansas State (8W - 3L)
W28-23 - BYU (9W - 2L)
Total OPP W-L, 55W - 66L
Avg Opp W-L, 5.0W - 6.0L

AS 2023-24 Schedule...
W49-0 - Southern Utah (7W - 5L), FCS opponent who finished 4th in their conference)
L27-15 - Oklahoma State (10W - 4L)
L29-0 - Fresno State (9W - 4L)
L42-28 - USC (8W - 5L)
L24-21 - California (6W - 7L)
L27-24 - Colorado (4W - 8L)
L15-7 - Washington (14W - 1L)
W38-27 - Washington State (5W - 7L)
L55-3 - Utah (8W - 5L)
W17-7 - UCLA (8W - 5L)
L49-13 - Oregon (12W - 2L)
L59-23 - Arizona (10W - 3L)
Total Opp W-L, 101W - 56L
Avg Opp W-L, 8.4W - 4.7L

Vastly different schedules.  Yes, give the coach credit, but the person/persons who orchestrated ASU -> B12 are the real magicians.  Whether you want to give USC/UCLA and/or Oregon/Washington credit or the B1G in general... but had ASU had to play the same schedule it doesn't go nearly as well for them as their current 9W - 2L would indicate.

Figs moving on by next year would not shock me.  Why Schultz continues to come back for ASU and not shift his focus towards Greco is a mystery to me.  The gap between him and the top 3 at this point is colossal.

Looking beyond that, the football program was all around terrible. The year before they got blown out by Eastern Michigan and beat a losing FCS program by 7. Then they had sanctions against them, lost most of their assistant coaches, and lost most of their top players. The guy who won the Heisman last season started at ASU for 3 years. Not to mention that a ton of other talent left, including a first round WR pick. The change of schedule helped, but keep in mind ASU was picked dead last and the over/under betting odds on their win total was 4.5 for this year. Fortunately I bet the over but enough sports books had those same odds for a reason, which isn't losing money. Dillingham basically resurrected a corpse of a football program.

All fair points.

I concede.

Herm Edwards ruined the program. Hell the state of things caused the AD to be fired, or rather he was allowed to resign because of how badly that experiment went. Since he used to be Edward's agent and all. It wasn't like ASU was some powerhouse that had a few bad years. They just had poor leadership and hadn't won 10+ games for about a decade. It wasn't like the talent was never at ASU. They put plenty of players in the NFL. Even one of their head coaches they fired in 2006 ended up becoming a head coach in the NFL. They just badly underachieved for years, hired the wrong people, and just assumed everything would be OK and things would eventually get back to the way it was when Frank Kush roamed the sidelines.

Pretty sure they had one national champ last year and it wasn't either of those guys.

Lost their top recruit coming in as well... Ludington NJ.  For a program that has recent team trophies, it sure is sinking fast.
