Oregon State Vs Oklahoma State: Student vs Master

Idaho

Recommended Posts

Next Sunday, Oregon State vs Oklahoma State in Corvallis 12 noon PT.  Should be a pretty good dual match. The student, Chris Pendleton faces his teacher, John Smith.  Here is a great article on the dual and the history of Pendleton and Ok State...

Probably would've been a better dual meet last year.

If Wittlake weren't from OR would almost expect to see Haas for this one, he's looked good at Scuffle.  Should've been Haas v Wittlake in semi.

The same Haas who is wrestling for 5th and loss to a gent that the other OSU gent lost to?

He did not look so well.

He made two stupid little mistakes at the very end of the two matches he lost.  The kid has potential, he has the size and he is a point scorer.  I think we've seen Wittlakes ceiling.

But yeah the guy who is wrestling for 5th, he took the path to get the most experience/benefit from the tournament. You learn from your losses, correct?  😉

Are you saying Haas should be starting ahead of Wittlake?

If Wittlake weren't from OR Haas would wrestle.  I predict might plug him into start for one dual on a Fri & Sun weekend.

PS: also possible Haas takes 84, John sends Witt down to replace Young at 41.  😉

I could see Thompson pushing Wittlake out of 184 next year. If that's the case he will have to go back to 165 or sit out his last year.

There may be a Plott RS at play next year.

Wittlake is never making 165 again.

Because John will let Wittlake wrestle in front of family & friends.

Why should Haas be wrestling that match rather than Wittlake if you say that Haas shouldnt' be the starter yet.?

Because that's how John sometimes does it, if you've got a guy who's close let him start a dual see how he does.

12-20.   OKST won.   ORST won 4 matches.   HWT, 125, and 157 were very close wins for OKST - One pointers.

I'd say the Beavs did pretty well, better than I expected.   I think they got a great deal with Pendleton.   Hopefully he can drive some excitement there and get some good recruits.  I can't tell you how happy I am that Zalesky is no longer there.

149: Voinovich (OKST) MD Gurr (OSU) 10-2
157: Gfeller (OKST) DEC Crosby (OSU) 10-9
165: Olguin (OSU) SV-1 Sheets (OKST) 7-5
174: Olmos (OSU) DEC Plott (OKST) 9-4
184: Munoz (OSU) DEC Wittlake (OKST) 4-3
197: Harvey (OSU) DEC Surber (OKST) 14-9
HWT:  Doucet (OKST) DEC Dixon (OSU) 3-2
125: Mastrogiovanni (OKST) DEC Kaylor (OSU) 3-2
133: Fix (OKST) MD Shaner (OSU) 12-4
141: Young (OKST) DEC Belton (OSU) 6-2

Yep - it was a very competitive match with a few little coaching fireworks as well. Ok State won 3 matches by 1 point... If Crosby had 1 more second he would have gotten the nearfall at the buzzer. Great crowd and a great day of wrestling.  As a side note... Kudos to Daton Fix... He was signing autographs and taking pictures with kids for about a half hour after the match. Good on him for doing that. There were also 4 exhibitions. Ok State won 3 and OSUw won 1 at Heavy.
