An idea -

Make it so only 7 all-Americans.  Same format, but now, blood round winners (not including semifinals) are not clear of risk of non-AA.  Chance wrestler could fall to 7/8 match and then need to win that to be All-American.  No coasting.  7/8 match becomes very very exciting.

Blood round is STILL awesome.  STILL a big deal.  But some tantalizing risk remains.

Added bonus reasons …

Podium is now symmetric.  3 on each side of first place.

Now can more easily say if AA - wrestler is top 10% of D1 starting wrestlers.

Why not get rid of individual champion awards? Only OW wins anything.

Let's get rid of weight classes too, make it like kids club, lightest 32 in a weight class then next 32 and so on, no seeds random draw.  🤼‍♂️

Why not get rid of AA altogether? Champion or nothing?

Don't tempt the powers that be. NCAA already got rid of 4th place trophies to save a few bucks.

Fourth place trophies are back. I like to think we shamed them into it.

Can we first get a 32 man bracket?  33 is just plan stupid and its certainly not symmetric.  🤨

Why don't we just have a three day party for all of the national qualifiers and send everyone home with certificates of achievement?

My first thought was...huh, interesting.

But why should 3/4 and 5/6 get to coast, but not 7/8?

Well, at each round some will break through to AA level.

On Friday 4 AAs are known first - those in Semis.  After blood round 4 folks are near.  Next round - 2 are into consi semis and they are AA (lowest can place is 6).   Then 7/8 match determines last AA.

An idea for discussion.  Glad there are many here that are capable of an intelligent discussion.

Let's take this reductio ad absurdum further:  get rid of scoring and rules all together.  Only one person walks out of the arena (venue) alive.  Demolition Derby + MMA + Squid Game ≠ Hunger Games.

Why not get rid of weight classes and placement, except for #1. While we’re at it we could also get rid rules against submissions, rules against striking, and time limits. Each team could bring their baddest athlete to the NCAA tournament, and only one will remain standing at the end of it all. That single individual would be worthy of an NCAA title. Imagine the excitement!

While we are at it how about anytime a brick is throw we just have a quick 30 sec coach wrestle off for challenge winner.

How about they just start using real bricks...

That'd be another way to go.

I think my approach would completely eliminate the chance that Iowa would ever throw a brick against Oklahoma State anytime in the foreseeable future, although we'd all like to see Brands try it.

They'd double team DT

Then two of them would need shoulder replacement surgery.

Have you ever seen a Grizzly bear take on a pack of wolves.  This'd be like a Grizzly taking on two 30lb coyotes.
