The fascinating trend of wrestlers adopting the mannerisms of their coaches continues in fascinating fashion, Plott sounds an AWFUL LOT like DT and Cael in his most recent interview.

I find this trend so amusing.  So many Okie State guys used to sound like angry short cowboys (J Smith), ditto for iowa guys using the highly idiosyncratic cadence of the brands bros.  Now it continues in the DT era.

What are some other notable coach speaking styles that get passed onto athletes that I'm forgetting?

Funny that you mention Okie State because Coleman Scott (Waynesburg, PA) and Eric Guerrero (San Jose, CA) both talk just like John Smith.

How do you sound short? Just wondering.

haha makes sense. These kids are still at an impressionable age and the coach/mentor relationship can last a lifetime.

I've noticed this too over the years, I think a lot of it can be attributed to a relative lack of media training. Because of that, when athletes are put in situations that are public facing, they manifest a lot of the personality, mannerisms, and talking points of their coaches, which I no doubt they've internalized as they've watched their HC/AC deal with public speaking to the team, donors, and media.

ok - but not all.   For example, Carter Starocci, Ferrari, Suriano and many others appear to have maintained their own unique styles of communication.

Most of the big D1 programs have their athletes & staff undergo sports media training. Money v.well-spent since one slip-up can end up costing a boatload of money in donations, recruiting, admissions, and merch. But athletes need to actually pay attention and use what they learn. I also wonder how they advise kids on social media these days, where saying or doing outrageous things leads to more clicks, clout, and money.

I always liked esposito for remaining a jersey guy. Not that I judged the guys for turning into Smith...except for guerrero because no one likes him.

Re-read the post you just quoted. Third sentence in, if it's too hard for you.

Yeah. Scott and EG sound like him but it's not because he's short. JS has got that classic Oklahoma lilting drawl. It's not that nasal twang like they have in Southeast. It's not the loud, macho, self-importance that Texans have. It's soft, but not the high-pitched stacatto (effeminate?) Of Appalachia. There's something sneaky in their delivery, like they know something you don't.

When everyone knows it is Russell Nelson, Prophet of the Mormon Church - the one True Church and the only one with an actual Prophet who speaks for The Lard.

Famously invented the eponymous half nelson technique.

Actually he is using the position to push his pet peeves.

Now they don't want to be called Mormons - after the last two leaders pushed "I'm a Mormon" campaign and "Meet the Mormons" books and supposedly Mormon means "More Good".

They keep changing the never changing temple ceremonies - those passed down from Adam to the present day...

At lease we have Cael Sanderson and are glad he did not commit to BYU.

As BYU dropped wrestling in 2000 (Cael about to win his 2nd of 4 NCAA titles that year... )

Never argue with an idiot. They will only bring you down to their level and beat you with experience.
