Brooks sold out on the stalemate. BUL adjusted and Brooks didn't readjust fast enough. (Kind of like Gilman on the Merkle position against Uguev in 2021.)

Too may people on this thread are making too much of one sequence to talk about Brooks - a multi-time age group world champ - not doing enough FS. Whatever...

I remember that one... the difference maker in that weight class.

Never argue with an idiot. They will only bring you down to their level and beat you with experience.

He did not look especially impressive in his other matches either though. Yeah, he was good compared who the US would typically send, but not compared to the guy he beat out to make the team.

Jordan Burroughs is a great announcer. Fantastic voice. Knowledgeable of course. Keeps the dialog rolling. The play-by-play guy is excellent as well. They know their stuff, and Burroughs even giving Greco love. Gotta love that! Beats the guy with the Scottish accent at the Pan Ams. LOL!

Brooks beat a reigning bronze medalist and a Japanese wrestler who had previously beat him, Z. Valencia and Myles Amine.

Brooks' best days are ahead of him - I think he wins if wrestles in 2028, might even win next year. But, his draw was much tougher than many want to acknowledge and, unfortunately, a late mistake cost in his 3rd bout cost him a chance for gold.

Exactly and that was also coached by Penn state....thats not a throwaway "eh they just got us" thats a unique position and time sequence that should of been prepped for....It looks like selling out on the stalemate like your hanging onto legs at NCAA with your head down and praying for the whistle. It's bad tactics.

Ive seen many many more times USA lose late vs euros trying to "hold on" late too. Retherford has had many tho perhaps not the same position.

I would say there was more then one sequence that showed a lack of international savvy and instincts in this match and I believe the sequence that could of led brooks up 5-0 was international savvy by the Belarusian.

How do you think Taylor would have done against them?

Is this Evan Wick's 3rd cousin wrestling Greco for Armenia?

The Wick's did attend San Marino High School, so maybe there are some relatives floating around parts of Europe! 😉

You need to keep in mind that Taylor wins this match easily though. Brooks looks more on the level of Jake Herbert/Andy Hrovat battling for medals than Taylor.

Did Brooks date you sister?

Jake Herbert? Andy Hrovat? GTFO

The Taylor who wrestled at Trials? That Taylor didn't looked like he wanted to be there.

Yeah. What were his results against them? I get that he shouldn’t have been sent under the current qualifying rules, but is the argument really that he got significantly worse over the past 12 months?
