Who are the guys that are expected to make an imact out of the gate.

This year there were several impact true freshmen ie  Stanich, Davis, Welch, Kasak, Shapiro, Bailey, Tj Stewart, Ragotzky, Fishback, Arnold, Barr, Keuter etc.

6 of those mentionded were AA's   Davis was the B10 champ.   The others  were R12 or spot started and showed out.

There are some absolute hammers coming in the next couple years that will be in the conversation from the start.

The kids I have been hearing about the most in 2024 are:

1.    Luke Lilledahl    Wyoming Seminary    PA    Penn State
2    Angelo Ferrari    Melissa    TX    Iowa
3    Benjamin Davino    St. Charles    IL    Ohio State
4    Koy Hopke    Amery    WI    Minnesota
5    Zack Ryder    Minisink Valley    NY    Penn State     182
6    Joseph Sealey    Wyoming Seminary    PA    Penn State    160
7    Aeoden Sinclair    Milton     WI    Missouri    195
8    Cody Merrill    Gilroy    CA    Oklahoma State    220
9    Brock Mantanona    Palm Desert    CA    Michigan     152
10    Pierson Manville    State College    PA    Arizona State   145

I'm not as familier with the 2025 class but PJ Duke sticks out, the kid is a bull and super slick.  A PSU recruit right in their 157 to 174 range where PSU is loaded.

Who are the guys that are going to make an immediate impact.

Stewart and Fishbach were redshirt freshman. If I had to guess I think we see Ferrari, Davino, Hopke, Ryder, Seally, Sinclair, Mantanona, Manville all redshirt. Out of the group mentioned above I think the best chances of guys wrestling are Lilledahl (legit title contender at 125) and Merrill (I think he’s a day one AA contender. Based on team need, size and such I think the rest of the guys are more likely to redshirt. It’s possible that if Nelson brands doesn’t come back that Angelo could go for Iowa as a true freshman.

Simon Ruiz (greyshirt, so actually class of 2023?), probably starter for Cornell at 174.  Beat Wolak, took Rocco Welsh to OT this past year.

I could see Laird Root starting at 165 for UNC as a true freshman this year.

Marc Anthony McGowan as a "freshman" who was with Princeton RTC last year and will be at 125 this year for the university.

Left out Connor & Cole Mirasola out of West Bend West HS in WI. Deep class for Penn State and a crazy deep class for Wisconsin kids.

Charlie Millard out of Homestead HS, WI likely takes a redshirt but could probably be the starter for the Gophers at 174 if they don't go that route.

Millard wrestled 157 last year, 160 as a Junior, and 152 as a sophomore, so he's not growing much.  He isn't going to jump into the Big Ten and start at 174.  He'll probably wrestle at 157 to start and maybe bulk up to 165 after a redshirt.

Seeing “Penn State” multiple times warms my heart. Iowa’s big grab is a ticking time bomb with a 50:50 shot of being a dud. Just over here holding my breath.

Did Keuter do something impactful I'm unaware of?

He didn't say what kind of "impact" correct?

I don't care how good he is, Koy Hopke needs to redshirt. He's not going to win a title next year and the guys on the senior circuit aren't going anywhere. He should use the season to transform into a brickhouse and be in serious contention for 2-4 titles depending on how his development comes along.

Agreed. He could use 30 pounds of muscle. He was way more talented than Schunke (beat him multiple times) but lost to him at the Christmas tournament and size seemed to be the biggest disparity.

Conner Harer...3x PA State Champ / beat Millard at Dapper Dan or whatever they call it...I think he jumps into B1G starting for Rutgers at 157lbs

Was really impressed with Harer against Millard. He will be a factor early.

my guess is that Valencia goes right away for Stanford I think hes an immediate AA contender.

between Tyler Knox and Aden Valencia - which one do you think is better suited to bump to 141?

Valencia is a pretty put together young man I could potentially see him at 149 he was significantly bigger than Bassett in the eye test to me and comparable to ashnault.

Those stalling calls in favor of a stalling chonk were atrocious even at the HS level. That loss never happens again even if Schunke changes his mind and keeps wrestling. Only one of them is going to end up with a man's body and it ain't Schunke.

We never know. Kevin Steinhaus was projected 165 to start and maybe 174 down the road and he was going up just weight per year as well. He got massive in the college weight room and if not for Schiller would have moved to 197. Tyler Safratowich was small forever, he was projected 133 and ends up 157-165.

I would like to see Millard looking like a shorter version of Garrett Joles wrestling 165-174

We have seen it many times now with True Freshmen Hwts. Both Mason Parris and Adam Coon went into NCAAs as true freshmen ranked very high and failed to place. Very rare to see a true freshmen place at Hwt.

My worry is the portal for Hopke. If you redshirt him and develop him for someone else. If you wrestle him immediately he will likely be similar to what we have in Bennett Tabor, undersized about 230 lbs and will be ranked in the 15-25 range.

Seems like you’re worried about the portal for every gopher with no rhyme or reason as to why. Hopke seems fully committed and has a slight meniscus injury that might cause him to redshirt regardless, depending on how the US Open goes.

Valencia is indeed ready to roll out of the gate, but I do agree that he's a 149 pounder, and Abas is likely coming back for another year.  RS feels inevitable, but we've seen stranger things.  A lot of these freshman hammers coming in for Stanford (Consiglio, Mara, Parco, Guffey, Cholakyan, Han Lindemeyer) I have to think will RS.

We don’t spend the money that other top programs do. Just the body language of the team compared to the past tradition of 25 years is much different. If we kept all of our talent that has came in the past 10 years, the results would be much different IMO. This is not just me, I have had conversations in the stands of duals with multiple others who said exactly what I was thinking. Some fans out there would like to see some outside the program assistants come in how Brandvold did years ago, thinking Luke Becker and Zach Sanders have gotten stale.

That’s all fine and good that you think that, but what about any of that makes you think Hopke is going to hit the portal before he’s even on campus?
