RIP to Toby Keith. I didn't agree with his politics, but the man put out some BANGERS, especially early in his career before the performative patriotism became his staple. Cancer is a bitch, and it seems like the end stage of his life was rough, so I'm glad he's not in pain anymore.

"How Do You Like Me Now?", "Shoulda Been a Cowboy", "Whose that Man?", "Beer for My Horses", "I Love This Bar", "As Good as I once Was", and "Whiskey Girl" are all all-timers.

When I was 17, still in high school, I had a gig at this equipment rental shop. One day, I had to fire up a customer's big ol' dually truck to move it around to the back of the shop. And guess what? Toby Keith's tunes were blasting! It was my first real introduction to his music. I went out and bought his greatest hits and have been a fan ever since!

FTFYAH

In Toby Keith’s I Love This Bar and Grill, in the WinStar Casino, there are two huge, wall sized photos of Keith entertaining troops overseas.  In one Keith is wearing his cowboy hat, surrounded by troops.  In the other, Toby is wearing one of the troops hat that has the unit patch on it and one of the troops is wearing Toby’s  cowboy hat.  That means something to guys whose attitude is “don’t mess with my hat.”

RIP Toby, you did well.

Cancer sucks big fat hairy monkey ass

For the last several months, my wife who is mid 30s - had several scans that suggested we should assume the worst.  Today we found out it was benign.  I have been processing gradually throughout the day and its been the best news I've had in awhile.  I'll listen to some Toby Keith since you are all saying how good he was.  I ventured into country but only a bit here and there.

I'd recommend the older stuff, but then I say that about most country music.

Or almost any band at all for that matter!  Although Aja by Steely Dan was good in its own way.

Great news, I'm sure these were stressful times.

Not a big fan of country music, and by extension not a big fan of Tony Keith music…but his patriotism is pretty genuine.

Having a large platform and using it for the greater good does not make it any less genuine.

He played so many USO shows.  Then check what he did for cancer stricken children.
