Hating religion isn't just limited to left wing views. 

What turn for crazy town occurred? I've been a leftist for as long as I can remember and I've not really seen one solitary turn toward such a place.  In fact,  there used to be a lot more open Communists among our ranks decades ago compared to today.  However,  that assumes that Communist ideology is crazy.

i've always thought he was unencumbered by political party.

What concrete things does he support to make him a leftist? Wealth redistribution? No. Racial Justice? No. Does he oppose the US empire/military industrial complex? Hasn't seen a war in the Middle East that doesn't make him rock hard.

Hating religion and loving drugs doesn't make you a leftist. He's a centrist democrat who likes to smoke.
