2 min SV - if no score then coin flip for choice.  Riding time is set to zero.

Flip winner can pick top, bottom or defer for a 30 second period.  Can person with first pick, pick neutral?  (Going to assume no or at least it would be very rare)

Riding time is tracked.

After 30 seconds wrestler who hasn’t picked a position has choice.  Can pick top, bottom OR NEUTRAL.

If score tied at end of 2nd 30 seconds, whoever has more riding time wins the match.

I have that right?

Assuming so, I’ll make my point … They have wrestled 9 minutes before getting to the two 30 second periods.  Still tied.  To force a victor chance will come into play to tilt the field a bit.  VERY similar to ultimate tie breaker ride out where a coin flip gives 1 choice to one wrestler and thus is advantaged.

Back to current situation — Assuming wrestler A is forced to pick position first, wrestler B is now advantaged since has options after having more info coming out of first 30 second period.  The coin flip has granted an advantage to one wrestler.

I’m ok with this.  The aspect of chance has simply been moved forward from where it was before - ultimate tiebreaker.

I see people saying both wrestlers should need to pick only top or bottom.  What if both ride the other for the full 30 seconds.  Another OT period?  Can happen today but giving that neutral choice is allowed it makes this way less likely as an outcome.

Net Net, I’m good with today.  I like the strategy aspect of it.

There is no flip in OT.

Whatever wrestler scores the first point gets choice - meaning top, bottom, or defer.

If a guy gets over one minute of riding time, and keeps it, in regulation and if at the time he got the one minute it would have been the first point in the match then that counts as the first point as well.  This actually happened at NCAAs.

In a way it encourages a wrestler to score first.

Unlimited SV until someone scores. Ref encourages action and does not hesitate to call stalling.

Matches should be unlimited, no stopping till someone is pinned.

Sounds familiar... Did you ever compete shirtless in tights and a Black Tom?

I refuse to answer that question.

Haven't flipped through the rule book, but assume first choice could pick neutral if they want, but they wouldn't have the opportunity for an escape point, of course. So if they fail to hold their opponent down in the second 30 period, they would lose (barring they don't score after giving up the escape). The only reason to do it I can think of is if you really suck at bottom but are really good at top and are confident you wouldn't give up an escape after 8:30 of wrestling.

I have to bring this up regularly. They experimented with that about thirty years ago. First event, they had to bring one of the kids to the hospital.

Seems that the problem would correct itself if refs were willing to call stalling.

criteria is far superior...

gimmicks are just that...

Yeah that's why they don't do OT in the NBA, NFL,NHL,MLB all the premiere sports just do criteria if there is a tie after 6 minutes. God I love good leg lace, roll him through three times that's pure excitement.

He doesn't like any version of wrestling where you can touch your opponent's legs. He prefers when they play patty cake for 6 mins.

This sounds great until a ref actually makes a stalling call and everyone loses their minds.  (PA state finals this year, ref aggressively called stalling, as prescribed by the rules, and people from around the country lost their minds and said that he should never ref again).

We had this debate a little pre NCAAs and it didn't seem right that 1 guy could choose neutral and win on the RT point, but I have changed my thoughts on it and am now fine with the rideout rule.

Its not like these matches are 8-8 after 9 minutes since guys who put up 8 points typically don't go another 2 without a score.   It's the 1-1, 2-2 matches that go to rideouts and at that point I am fine if you lose a coin flip or strategy battle.  You had 9 minutes.

A few OT/Tiebreaker clarifications

1. First choice goes to wrestler with first non-escape, non-penalty point. Disc is flipped if only escapes/penalties have been scored. RT point counts as a non-escape, non-penalty.
2. First choice can be top, bottom, neutral, or defer. Second choice can be top, bottom, or neutral.
3. If tied after the tiebreakers, riding time in OT is the deciding factor.
4. If riding time in OT is equal, they do a 1 minute SV period.
5. If still tied, another set of tiebreakers. Repeat 3-5 above until you get a winner.

doesn't feel even a little bit gimmicky...

not convoluted at all...

No...what should happen is the last guy who's foot stepped out of bounds to tie the match, he should just be declared the winner🙄

Yeah, yeah...Gif, rooting for you...rinse and repeat....
