So how many PSU fans will be rooting for RBY? Let’s see where their loyalties really lie.

It's crazy that y'all really care what the laundry says more than who's wearing it.

Who tf cares if PSU fans root for an Alumnus that is an American who happens to be wearing a singlet that says Mexico?

If Spencer Lee was wrestling for France and RBY was wrestling for America, who would you be rooting for? I know with 100% certainty that I would be rooting for Spencer Lee. It's sports man, it ain't that deep.

@Lleynor just read your post. See above.

Remember that he wrestled 141 as a freshman.  So 22kg over his original collegiate weight.

He's gained 35% of his original weight and remains the planet's best at his weight.

I just can't get over that they let Dake age cheat but wouldn't let Amit Elor.

The rules is the rules.  You must be 18 at the end of the year or you cannot compete at Seniors.

You can’t take the RBY haters seriously. They’re just PSU haters, and there’s no fixing that.

I just don't even understand the rationale. The fact that Spencer and RBY are wrestling in the WORLD FINALS instead of at Final X is f*cking awesome. Both are guaranteed to come home with hardware instead of one of them being stuck at home.

But yes, it is PSU haters saying that if they choose their own wrestler over an Iowa wrestler wearing a USA singlet, somehow that makes them a bad person. I think admitting that you'd blindly root for anyone wearing a RW&B singlet is more damning about your character than the former.

I happened to hop on here to see anyone chirping and there were play by plays.  I was like Fffuuuuuuck.

Rby decided to be a Mexican citizen after college when he knew he couldn’t make a world team here.  It is what it is.  He wasn’t super into being a Mexican citizen until after college.   He applied for dual citizenship after college and immediately switched his allegiance to that team.  It has nothing whatsoever to do with his Mexican heritage.   His dad grew up here.  He grew up here.   He should be competing / attempting to compete for team USA.

Wait until Team USA stans find out that Amit Elor learned to wrestle in Israel and only chose to rep America because it gave her a better chance at succeeding

It's almost like...people with multiple citizenships are free to choose what country they represent

I think you’re making this race stuff a way bigger deal than it is or needs to be…

It’s not just sports; It’s international competition. Would you pull against an American in the Olympics? Your statement couldn’t be more inaccurate in International Sports. That flag means everything. I want the USA to be the best in everything. I’m blown away that any of you would consider any other way at this level.

It's sports. It's a game.

@BruceyB and I are in rare agreement on something - nationalism is dumb.

It doesn't help that many Team USA fans are openly racist.

But if Ono switched his allegiance from Japan to Team USA tomorrow, the same morons would welcome him with open arms.

Only a certain color of blue glasses wearing peeps would root for Ono if he defected from Japan and they would be wrong

On to something that matters.  I’ve had some time on the plane to go through the team rankings.  Here is what I figured out:

USA wins if Hidlay wins Gold

USA wins if Green gets to the Bronze medal match

USA wins if Lee and Haines win Gold

USA wins if Lee or Haines win Gold and Green takes at least 10th place

USA and Russia tie if Russia runs the table, only 1 of Lee or Haines win Gold, and Green doesn’t score any team points (which is entirely possible and I have no idea how a tiebreaker would play out or if it’s simply a tie)

Russia wins if they run the table, Lee and Haines lose, and Green doesn’t take at least 8th place

USA is clearly in the drivers seat but we need a win or two…or for Russia to stumble.

Would love for someone to doublecheck my math…

Nationalism is dumb? How stupid are you?!?

You defect to the USA, and do it legally, you get my support.

Again, anyone pulling against an American is basically a traitor in my book.

If you see it as “just a game”, then why do you communicate about it outside of yourself? Why do you comment on it? Why are you even here?

Pulling for Ono in a PSU singlet is a world difference between him in a Japanese one.

I would 100% root for Spencer Lee under a French flag over Luke Lilledahl wearing the USA flag. They are both American's wearing different singlets. I'm blown away that any of you would change who you are rooting for based on what singlet they wear.

I could care less about what country a wrestler is from. I root for Americans because I know more about them having followed their careers, and I feel more loyalty towards an athlete I have watched for a long time than someone from overseas that I know nothing about.

If Ono was wrestling Blaze in the finals for the Olympics, call me whatever you want, I'm rooting for Ono. I love that kid. I don't care that he was born in Japan and Marcus Blaze was born in Ohio. I am a bigger fan of Masanosuke Ono than I am of Marcus Blaze. Why should I care if someone was born in the same country as me? That's just chance. I don't root for a flag, I root for Athletes.

I was extremely pessimistic going into this world championships but I think the past few days of wrestling has been one of the most impressive overall team performances I have seen across my time watching athletics. USA is going to be a scary scary squad come 2028. Also Kyle Dake is now my American goat if you combine folk and free which people seem to rarely do aside from Cael, which I do not understand we wrestle both here.
