Eddie Ventresca - 149
Daschle Lamer - 165
Braden Basile - 165
Jon Ley - 184
Dylan Evans - 197

any others you guys see that are unexpected?

Of these Lamer is the most interesting to me - cause Beaver but also cause he's the only one certing at a lighter weight than he wrestled last year

Good point to make, I’m interested to see how that treats him. Quality wrestler for sure. Was he wrestling super light last season? Or did he shed bad weight this off season?

I've no idea what he was actually weighing in at but he's pretty long and lean on the eyeball test; no much weight (good or bad) to lose

I thought the same re: him being lean

Ventresca has to be some kind of error one would think. A career 126er going up 3 weights to a spot occupied by a National Champ.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong but if he got on the scale at 141.1 during the cert it would show up as 149

I think he was at Cal Poly w/ Evan Wick - maybe that's the inspiration?

correct as that is the closest weight class without him going over the weight class limit in LBS

Which really makes the Lamer one interesting cause last year he wrestled 174 so for him to cert at 165 means he's already under 165 lbs

So, if you are looking at track rosters and weights, those numbers do not mean that they are wrestling that weight. Every year in October they have their initial weigh in. Ventresca could have weighed 141.1, but is still wrestling 125. Right now, Arizona State does not have a 125 or a 133 because they are all listed at 141. You can look at all rosters and see many wrestlers up a weight or two right now. For example, Josh Barr is now wrestling Heavyweight. I would not put much stock into these initial certifications. As @ScottishSteel mentioned, the more important ones are those who have already certified lower. That still does not mean they will wrestle that weight, but it does mean they can.

Seems sensible. Ventresca at 149 would end his career on the bench, unless Henson moves and Bassett goes 141. Can’t imagine 149 being any fun for Ventresca either.

Not a lot more needed for inspiration. Wick is a monster. Arrow consistently points up for that guy.

That Cal Poly team had 3 (Chance, Daschle, and Legend) Lamers and Brawley Lamer was on staff. Seems significant. Evan Wick is no longer on staff, but they picked up…*checks notes*…Nelson Brands.

You can go into trackwrestling to see rosters and weight certifications. They are not correct or final since it's only Oct 6.

This just means that is what they weighed at during their certification.  Some schools have them make scratch for it, and some don't.

Lamer weighed between 157.1 and 165.0.

Ventresca weighed between 141.1 and 149.0.

Yes hopefully everyone knows what certified means - even though I said qualified.

But these are still interesting nonetheless (IMHO)

Yes but isn't there also a rule where they are only allowed to lose something like 1.5 percent of their weight per week?

So if Ventresca did weigh 149 pounds, that would be like 11 weeks before he could wrestle at 125 pounds.

it would depend on minimum weight class certified for / we are unable to see that on track
