This video, mixed with the All-Star topic started here recently, made me think it would be a fun idea to try this.

If you had to build a roster with the most controversial /headline grabbing wrestlers, old or new from any era in their career, to generate attention towards the NCAA season, who would you pick?

I think my roster would look something like this:

125 Gilman (Iowa)

133 Long (PSU)

141 Marion (Iowa)

149 Jenkins (PSU)

157 J. Williams (Iowa)

165 Marstellar (Oklahoma State)

174 Nickal (PSU) - potentially my most questionable take.  He wasn't really that controversial this early in his career.

184 Starocci (PSU)

197 Campolattano (Ohio State)

285 Ferrari (Nebraska)

I am sure there are other choices I could think, but these are who first came to mind.

As far as controversial, Paul Donahoe at 125lbs might be difficult (notice i didn't say hard) to defeat (I didn't say beat).

I feel like controversial and headline grabbing aren’t always the same thing, although controversies do grab headlines. If we’re talking who got the most press overall, IMO I’d go:

125 - Anthony Robles

133 - Austin Desanto

141 - Brock Hardy with an assist from Jesse Mendez’s spladle

149 - Bo Bassett (impressive that he can make this list before ever wresting an attached NCAA match)

157 - Kyle Dake

165 - Shane Griffith

174 - Carter Starocci

184 - Cael Sanderson

197 - AJ Ferrari

285 - Gable Steveson

can you get more specific about being controversial? Some on this list are controversial because they are bad people others because they aren't in shape.

I was more so leaning towards the bad end of "headline grabbing" choices here (following the idea of the video I linked in the OP).  Certainly there is a spectrum to "negative publicity" though.

Williams right?

Williams I associate more with his multiple bar fights/arrests and transferring/grades controversies than I do for not being in shape.

149 - Brent Metcalf -- Shoving Darion Caldwell for the flips

165 - Johny Hendricks -- Became the villain when he was pinned by Churella and it was not called

174 - Mike Evans -- Can't remember how many 1-0 matches he won and seemed to be proud of it

We'll see.  Sounds like Brands & co. already took care of it internally, per the article.

Shirley any slick Iowa (or Florida) attorney can clear him.  He wasn't really "operating" now was he?  He was just taking a nap.  Reminds me of a football player who fell asleep in the WhataBurger drive thru.  Their drive thru was very slow, who wouldn't. What did the beers really have to do with it?  🤔

DAMN I forgot about Pat entirely... And his rap sheet might be enough to rival Camp's racketeering charges.

How is PSU able to keep these types of stories from hitting the local papers?

Pennsylvania doesn't have local papers.

Did I win?
