I don’t think he ever gets to 1 again, so I don’t see an issue. I understand your point, though. He’s already achieved higher than 2, so how can 2 be his limit? But this is projecting forward, not looking backwards. He’s not being viewed as as much of a title threat as you might otherwise consider for a returning champ, and I honestly wouldn’t bet any money on him to repeat

I'm curious to see what happens with Aden. He had a wild season last year with some tough losses in there and then obviously went on an incredible run to win the NCAA title. The question really is whether you think he is the guy he showed during the regular season or the guy that showed up to NCAAs. If not for the narrowest of losses to Bo Bassett at WTT, I think there is a very high chance that Aden would be our senior rep at 65kg this year.

Aden has always been better at FS than Folk, and I think the fact that he was able to win the title as a freshmen says much more about how much he's improved in folk than how big of an outlier performance it was.

149 is going to be extremely difficult to win next year with 3 Champions and SVN in there plus several other immensely talented guys. There are going to be some absolute studs left off the podium in March. I think I might have to invest in some Valencia stock this season and pick him to win the whole damn thing again.

so, without anywhere better to bring it up...

i just saw Sinclair is listed as a Junior this season for Mizzu...

could this mean he has opted into 5 for 5?

it would make sense with his future being at seniors...

just kinda threw me off a bit...

I wouldn’t put too much thought into it…a lot of the teams are trying to standardize their rosters and eliminating the use of red shirt all together. (Although still mentioned in bios) It’s his 3rd season/junior year with the team. The deadline was the 31st for submitting a waiver/preference and we might not ever see a list of who did what…we’ll just see them go from there ”Senior” to “Fifth Year” on rosters.

I think in Sinclair's case, whether he opts in or opts out, he'd maintain the same number of years of eligibility just by chance. I don't know of any particular reason he'd choose one path over the other if the eligibility outcome is identical. Simpleman may be onto something, though, in the sense that teams could be trying to standardize how they characterize athletes who have the same amount of eligibility remaining, regardless of which route got them there

i do not put much faith anything on college bios having seen some wildly inaccurate things...

it just stood out while chatting with a buddy about their roster...

I wouldn’t either but when it comes to the red shirt they’re really good about not messing that up. And I think they’ll keep that in the bios for now because it adds a footnote on a persons career without saying much. Once the it’s been in effect a full cycle we won’t need it anymore in there.

nobody on their roster is listed as a redshirt...

Zan is a "senior" and was a redshirt sophomore last year at wisconsin...

it probably is just the way are they are looking at 5-5 for their bios...

He was also the recruiting class ahead of Sinclair so that makes sense.

Anyone that has utilized a redshirt to this point would be better served to opt in to the old system because they will still be eligible for Medicals and Olympic Redshirts. If they did 5 for 5 they would have the same amount of eligibility but without the flexibility of redshirts so even if a wrestler doesn't plan to utilize additional redshirts, they have nothing to lose by sticking with the old system and at least keeping the option. We aren't done solving the riddles of remaining eligibility just yet!

Wait a sec... how many NCAA titles did "Aden" win?

"Aden" Valencia won one title this year as a freshmen. I'm not exactly sure what you're trying to do here.

I saw his birth certificate. His name is actually spelled Ædêи

Put respect on that name

I assume for this question we will use teams outside the top 10, for that reason (and I do not have in depth explanations) I think these teams have a chance to podium:

Missouri

Lehigh (seems to always bring a tough squad to nationals)

Cornell

Iowa St

It seems like, "podium" would be, trophy teams but if it means, "podium" then only top eight.  I wouldn't begrudge anyone for picking outside the top eight.

If you are going to put these teams as having a chance to podium, we NEED some explanations. Outside of Cornell, I don't see any of those teams placing in the top 8 this year.

Edit: Podium is trophy correct?
