Will this become a new trend with the 5 for 5 rule being introduced??

Levi Haines was the first to do this that I know of and it obviously paid off well for Forrest last season. Waylon Cressell is another example, looking forward to see what he does this season!

PSU currently has two studs who could take a grey shirt and still get 5 years of eligibility, Jayden James and Clinton Shepherd.

Back in the day guys like Pistol Pete and Eddie George would take post graduate years at military academy’s so it’s not a new phenomenon. Derek Stingley and Ryan Williams are more modern examples of highly recruited prospects who either graduated early or reclassified.

But with holdbacks becoming so common in wrestling and the new 5 for 5 rule instated I believe we’ll see an influx of top guys reclassing bc it’ll actually be beneficial to graduate at 17/18 now

Still means 5 for 5 if you are really young or a normal aged kid with a bit of a late birthday.

So what's the point of a greyshirt?

He will now just hang out at the NLWC for a year. Only really young guys can do this. Cornell and some other Ivies were doing it alot. So he will be off the roster this year.

But doesn't the 5 clock start?   Ivies weren't doing it under 5 in 5.

Haines still attended his senior year of high school, but wrestled with NLWC instead of his team, correct?

John Smith going for that 5th year?

5 in 6 but no duals no tournament?  do they still get the nonattached? Do that get 5 attached?

IDK

There are no longer any "shirts" no redshirts or medshirts etc.  So no greyshirts or grayshirts.  Let's just call it what it is ... a gap year.

That is correct.

Looks like Clinton Shepherd will be doing the same thing this year.

Not sure when James's bday is but it must be late for this to work. He must still be 18 at start of semester. Amazing he is this good this young.

Turned 18 in June 2026.

Dang he is an anomaly. That is surely young enough to get 6. Grey then 5. If I were Cael I would do it. This kid could be a undefeated 5 timer. Probably would lose a few this year.

Yep.

Here's something wild: Levi Haines could have been our U23 rep this year, and could be our U23 rep next year, too.

Actually thats more like normal.

Well ya. But in elite wrestling circles one year holdback is pretty standard. But James is a normal aged graduating senior, actually a few months younger than average. Teh average age to turn 18 is March of your senior year and James is on the younger side!!!

165 Mes

174 Cunn/Henckel...Fav Cunn? James would have been here?

Could we see them go:

157: Kasak

165: Duke

174: MM
