Please elaborate.  Here’s the list of reasons apparently

https://nypost.com/2026/07/25/us-news/families-of-9-11-want-to-ban-mamdani-from-25th-anniversary/

They’re pretty much all about things people other than him have done/said, and even then often taken out of context.  If every politician was punished for things someone they once supported said, there’d be no politicians.   And of course the whole “he refused to condemn ‘globalize the intifada’!” is such a stupid argument.  He literally said he doesn’t use that phrase.

One of the organizers also said it was “outlandish” that Mamdani considered American Muslims to be victims of NYC, which is pretty Islamaphobic itself.  Mamdani lived in NYC during 9/11, he has just as much of a right as anyone else (and being the mayor, probably more) to be there.  Of course he responded to questions about this with his typical class.

Check out the petition too.  These probably aren’t victims’ families, but lots of Islamaphobia here:

https://www.change.org/p/please-sign-to-support-honoring-the-memory-of-those-lost-on-september-11th-with-dignity

Some examples:

If he had it his way, Zohran Mamdani would be flying the plane

Deport or jail mondummy as an islamic tertorist

Remember: We said that we would never forget! Mamdani represents the Muslim murderers that attacked us on 9/11. He is guilty of that by association and his religion. He is obligated by his religion to hate us, lie to us about it and want us to die! Look it up!

Because he is a terrorist and all that associate with him are ones aswell, we have forgotten our people that have died at hands of these Muslims

Muslims do not belong in the west, and they certainly don't belong in a ceremony in remembrance of a tragedy they celebrated

Even a lot of the non-Islamaphobic comments talk about things like “keeping politics out of 9/11.”  Which is stupid since it’s been a tradition for the mayor to attend…rightfully so.

Some known campaign affiliates and individuals he still associates with:

Imam Siraj Wahhaj, a gay-hating Brooklyn Muslim leader and unindicted co-conspirator in the 1993 World Trade Center bombing, a precursor to the 9/11 attacks.

Mahmoud Khalil, the lead organizer of the 2024 anti-Israel tentifada at Columbia University.

Darializa Avila Chevalier, who once called the US “a f—ing disgrace” and boasted that she desecrated the American flag by using it like a napkin to wipe her hands. (Endorsed her for Congress)

Rama Duwaji (his wife) who has a documented history of anti-American/anti west social media footprint. “Liking” Instagram post that dismissed investigations into Hamas’s October 7, 2023, sexual violence as a “mass rape hoax” perpetuated by The New York Times.

This doesn’t include his family history (that doesn’t necessarily define one) or financial support…which yea. This isn’t Islamophobia…that’s such a weak argument. Ignoring what he surrounds himself with and the company he holds because he can answer political questions with “class”…because he’s a politician is silly. All I’m saying is nothing I listed is he said/she said spewed nonsense…these are things he’s done/continues to do. Islamophobia…lol

Looks like Mamdani met the Wihhaj guy once.  Trump had a friendly meeting with a former leader of Al-Qaida in Syria.  He’s a good guy now!

If hating gays is disqualifying, there are certainly numerous Republicans we can add to that list…for example NC ran a dude for governor that was openly homophobic, and that was known long before it came out that he was a self-described Nazi (and even after that came out he was still allowed to run and most Republicans voted for him).

Tennessee Congressman Andy Ogles: “homosexuality has no place in America today.”

On the subject, also Tennessee Congressman Andy Ogles:  “Muslims don’t belong in American society.”

Stephen Miller is probably the most racist person in American politics today. Can we shun everyone that associates with him please?

Lol that you name 4 people and one of them is Mahmoud Khalil.   As you note, he did nothing but criticize the Israeli governments.  Funny you bring that up though because there are a not insignificant number of people (not including myself, largely right wingers), that think Israel did 9/11.  And speaking of the Columbia protests and antisemitism, interesting article here:

https://thehill.com/homenews/education/5908491-columbia-professors-claim-antisemitism/

Saying “America is a disgrace” doesn’t mean you don’t want the country to get better.  Donald Trump: “we’re like a third world country.”

There are legitimate questions about some of the claims made about specific details around 10/7.  Pointing that out doesn’t mean you support the attack.

Edit: there is no legitimate reason to think the current mayor of NYC, who lived in NYC during 9/11, should not attend.  Sorry.

Marco Rubio: “America is in decline”

That leader you’re talking about was the President of Syria…the fact that you’re trying to compare that diplomatic meeting to Mamdani meeting…I mean Presidential meetings and just casual meetings with terrorist are the same I guess? I copied that real quick off a link…the gay think is whatever, take it or leave it…OPENLY hateful was the point there. Boy you clung to that though and completely brushed off the terrorist thing though…lol

I see what you’re trying to do with your arguments there but this isn’t a racist thing…this is people directly or indirectly supporting violent actions against other people and his willingness to be around them, his wife supporting them etc etc. Hiding behind “Well these people said mean things…” we can hold those people accountable too but it’s all deflection at this point…

Admittedly I'm out of the loop but instead of building the groceries stores isn't there some current real estate that could be utilized for the grocery stores and maybe save on construction costs and just remodel?

Trump’s meeting with the Syria guy was definitely friendly, not like they were meeting with a terrorist, which he had been.   Maybe he did change.  But maybe the other guy did too (he also did good things too including fighting against drug dealing in NYC).  Or maybe he was never a terrorist in the first place.  Interesting that you call him definitively a terrorist, as he was never designated a terrorist.    Even his mention in docs about the 1993 WTC bombing was only from an “early list” based on associations with other people.  So basically we’re judging Mamdani based on associating with someone, who himself is being judged based on associations with other people.  Kinda Islamaphobic if you ask me.

And as far as I can tell, that “association” was one meeting with him as one of his constituents.  Doesn’t seem like they’re best buds or anything.

“Zohran Mamdani was elected mayor on his promise to freeze the rent. His stunts to popularize his slogan included running the New York City Marathon in a shirt reading “Zohran Will Freeze It,” plunging into the Atlantic on New Year’s Day, and publicly vowing to appoint to the Rent Guidelines Board (RGB) only members who “understood landlords are doing just fine.” Shortly after taking office, Mamdani appointed a majority of the nine-member RGB. Last month, the members fulfilled the mayor’s campaign promise, voting to impose 0 percent rent increases for both one-year leases and—for the first time ever—two-year leases for tenants in the city’s 1 million rent-stabilized units.

Last week, a group of affected property owners, represented by former First Deputy Mayor Randy Mastro and his law firm, filed a challenge against the RGB’s action, asking a state court on Staten Island to nullify the rent freeze. Mastro’s exhaustive complaint sets forth a series of strong arguments demonstrating that the RGB’s decision was arbitrary and capricious, an abuse of its discretion, and riddled with unlawful procedural irregularities.“

Wow, Mamdani actually trying to do the things he promised!  This guy really does have a leg up on most other politicians

Dumb (that tweet/clip).  I’m sure the 30% is compared to typical prices in NYC.  That doesn’t mean it will be 30% cheaper than NJ.  And even if it is, have fun getting your groceries back to NJ via public transportation or paying the tolls to drive!

I sincerely hope the Costco membership suggestion was a joke…

dumb is thinking prices in NJ close to NYC would be that much different than prices in NYC

Maybe not 30%, but probably 10-15%.  Just spot checked a gallon of milk at Target is 10% higher in NYC than Jersey City.   Eating into those savings, which will be further eaten into by the cost and hassle of transportation

Perhaps terrorist was a bit to blunt in my wording…he was listed as a co-conspirator but didn’t have all the hard evidence to get a lock tight conviction…instead he just testified in defense of Omar Abdel-Rahman (the "Blind Sheikh"), describing him as a respected scholar, and also offered favorable testimony for convicted co-conspirators involved in the plot. The Blind Sheik was convicted as a conspirator as well. So playing word games and pretending here can we settle on terrorist sympathizer at a minimum? I can pull up information on that as well but it’s kind of a waste of time.
Side note: His son was arrested for running an extremist cell in New Mexico where they were training kids to commit school shootings. They got them in jail for life on many counts…to include the kidnapping and death of his toddler son. Raised by extremist resulting in extremism…

So how much will NYC lose in this grocery store boondoggle?   Millions at the very least.   But because the budget is in the large billions, they can subsidize it.   But subsidizing that and busses and daycare will stretch the people as the taxes will have to increase on Joe Blow that he will notice these things are not free.   There is an nice article explaining this.

This situation is the definition of socialism works until you run out of other people's money.   Do you really think the people of East Germany were better off before the Berlin Wall came down?   Honestly?   There is no way.   If you think this you are deluded and should ask someone that lives in the east side of Berlin that is 50 years old or older what they prefer.

How many Germans on the capitalist side of the wall ran to the socialist of the wall when it came down?    Was it zero?   No one knows why though

Yeah, like I said, wanting to ban Mamdani from the 9/11 ceremony because he met once with a guy and that guy sympathized with terrorists 30 years ago, is ridiculous

Well he has been quoted as saying so

The most widely quoted portion of Hasan Piker's 2019 livestream is:

"America deserved 9/11, dude. F* it, I'm saying it. We fing totally brought it on ourselves, dude. Holy s. We did. We f*ing did."
