Whom did I stereotype?  Did New Yorkers not riot daily after the games and burn buses and kill someone?    We’re spurs fans not hunted and beaten.  Cause they were

That’s also in the tweet not my words

It's funny the bubbles social media can put you in. There is Caveira's algorithm meanwhile a friend on Instagram was resharing videos of Knicks fans still out when the trash pickup was going on helping the trashman throw trash in the truck.

Yes, I know what your algorithm shows you, mostly because you force feed it on to this forum.

Turning your head to senseless violence and murder.  Yes people were murdered….. sounds like a better idea lol

I'm not. Any violence is bad.

I just ask if you are aware of the incentives of the people you're constantly sharing stuff from here? Does it concern you that they stand to gain monetarily by keeping you in a constant state of agitation?

Yawn.   Search engines are weird.  You type in like “New York fans assaulting spurs fans” and guess what guy get.

That.

yall prefer to not know what reality is.   Maybe don’t trash the city to require your friend or his insta posts to require good people to have to clean up for you

Why is there material for the algorithm to show?

Dude...I sorta like some of your stuff but to me attacking the "algorithm" is weak as f...just as bad as arguing the platform. Argue the content my guy and I'll listen

There’s material that’s completely legit, and there’s material that is hyperbole, and there’s material that’s complete garbage. Theres literally stories that are complete lies and videos thwt are complete fake AI.

The algorithm looks at what material you cling to and force feeds it to you as nauseum.  If you cling to legit material, you’re going to have the majority of your feed be legit material.  If you cling to food videos, you’re going to be fed a lot of food videos.  And if you cling to garbage click bait, you’re going to be fed garbage click bait. If cling to right wing hate or left wing hate, you’re going to get fed the hate.

It’s just simply the reality ot social media.

You might misunderstand me.  The algos did not invent the burning bus.  Why is there a burning bus and in what world should we ignore that?

Thank the algo creators for amplifying burning busses, naked people in the streets, and so on.  We must not normalize visible collapse.  Broken windows cannot go unrepaired.

You are mistaken.  That was Japanese fans at the World Cup.

I can’t figure out the reason it’s exponentially easier to find thousands of videos of Palestinians doing awful things

I agree that all property destruction and rioting is bad, and should be punished. In general I agree with you that there is tremendous merit in broken windows policing.

My point was more about how people can live in wholly different realities thanks to algorithms. I haven't actually spoken to my friend who shared the video of the guys helping the sanitation workers, but it would be interesting to know what videos she saw of violence during the celebrations. This morning on the way to work I was listening to a podcast where one host was a born and raised Knicks fan and while they acknowledged some violence, they said it seemed to them most people were on good behavior. NYC is a big place that presumably had celebrations happening everywhere. People's experience of those celebrations probably varied widely even if they were taking part in them. Once you only know of them from social media that limited viewpoint can ironically become even more limited.

Agree with all of this.  I was just answering the question of why to algorithms have material to share.  And mostly in reference to the very real fact, that if you allow them to, to media and social media algorithms will very much dictate your view of the world, and that view will be very narrow because you’re going to just eat up whatever is fed to you without exercising any ability to independently think, or think with an open mind that realizes there is very very rarely only one side to a story.

This is not my opinion, these are precisely the descriptions from those who created these algorithms for Twitter, Facebook, Google, etc. And we have a some primes of examples of that, sitting on both sides of the “aisle”, on this very board.
