This group of Americans made a strong argument for the best U20 men’s freestyle team of all time. It is the first team since 1988 to win a medal in every weight class, when the USSR won five golds, three silvers and two bronzes in Wolfurt, Austria. The last U.S. team to medal in every weight class was the 1979 squad, who earned gold in all ten weights. Caveat: the U20 Worlds were split in 1979, one in Colorado Springs, Colo., and one in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, with few countries attending both.

Someone fill me in on this Peretin dude. Seems like he's at James' level? Can he start at Cornell?

It seems as if he’s being thrown into most people’s projected lineups for Cornell…kid is good

Yes, he's the likely Cornell starter at 165.  It's "Perentin".  He beat James last year at the Clarion Open, 4-1.

(he happens to be the nephew of a guy I bike with here in NJ)

They both went to Delbarton right? I wonder if the closeness of their matches has more to do with familiarity, and maybe a certain big-brother component, than they do with closeness in skill. Parentin seems to have worse results against common opponents, though he is obviously excellent.

He was James’s teammate at Delbarton HS. Beat him last year at the clarion open

I did know about Clarion and James just winning by criteria that's why I thought he was at same level. Didn't know about the teammate thing. I was impressed how he could get in and finish on James something some senior level guys couldn't do, but maybe he knows what Jayden's tendencies are.

Perentin was also a 3 time middle weight state champ in NJ. He’s very legit but certainly their familiarity plays into their matches.

asterisks are silly...

you wrestle whoever shows up, period...

So if UWW responded by barring Team USA from having coaches at senior Worlds, you'd be cool with that?

of course not, but that is not my point...

thankfully, my family does not have to worry about any kind of "sanctions" for anything our country does... we get a free pass...

but, that is not what i take exception with...

asterisks are only something those who are watching from the sidelines talk about...

once you start down that path, any result can be justified...

when has an american athlete ever been sanctioned in anyway in any kind of international event because of their government's actions?

it does not happen...

is it fair?

absolutely not...

am i very grateful we do not have to worry about it?

I am not aware of any issues with Iran's participation in the World Cup(maybe they just played in Mexico and Canada?). Hopefully that means there will be no issues for U23s this year, 2027 Worlds, or the Olympics.
