It appears that this year's U20 FS team may exceed last year's U20 team... and 2025 was a GREAT year for the US in U20 Worlds!

Iran and all of the Asian countries are usually solid I do not think Europeans put a precedent on it truthfully.

Iran and Japan have gassed here more than I can remember seeing before.

yeah, we seem to systematically gas opponents

which is confusing since it's one of the most obvious and seemingly straightforward things you can train for ahead of time

any ideas why this seems to happen so frequently?

is it having better depth / training partners that push our guys into deep waters more frequently? is it folkstyle impact? something in the water?

Semis coming up later... 70Kg... Robideau vs Khalili of Iran.

74Kg James vs Seilbekov of Kazakhstan

97Kg Boyle vs Tsarikaev of Belarus

125Kg Ross vs Dursunov of Azerbaijan

My guess is that some train mostly & rely on technique... leaving the cardio training to the wrestlers.

When I started out watching this (50+ years ago) the Soviets were mostly killing us outside of our very top guys. They showed they could score when tired. I read Yuri Shakmuradov's (Soviet coach 60s/70s) book on their 5 year program. First, they National Sports Org would often decide for you what sport based on various measurements and observations. I remember Sergei telling us while he was at Lehigh that if guys went up on the high dive and looked good coming down- they would be divers, but if they just had the nerve to go up and jump off they were probably crazy enough to wrestle! Early on most would play futbol to gain basic motor skills. They might not start wrestling until mid-teens and then be world class by late teens early twenties. So yes, they spend time on technique and strategy.
