I believe there’s a minimum time you need to be “un-retired” for if you want to come back, but isn’t it probably less (or at least no more) than the suspension time?

When on these we were out of touch for weeks to months at a time. Now - satellite communication is available but sure wouldn't want the added weight in the packs even as some think it worth it.
