Maybe hate is the wrong word. But certainly a lot of putting down the event or making it seem if PSU isn’t there that it’s not worth having. That’s the sentiment I get in my circles.

I know he had a losing record, but how did Branch do at Big 12s? If he wasn't the "last place" qualifier at his conference he could have avoided the 32/33

Indeed it wasn't, Stanich was not small there - making 125 must have been brutal for him.

First Round Seed Pairs
Wrestleknownothing replied to Wrestleknownothing's topic in College Wrestling
One more fun fact. The 16 seed is 35-25 against the 17 seed. Better than expected for a toss up match. In spite of earning the extra half to one advancement point, the 16 seed scores less than the 17. -
Do you believe that most PSU fans hate the event? I've never had anyone express any hatred to me.

The 1993 Intermat Form Hodge Trophy Goes To....

Chad Zaputil (Iowa) was the #1 seed. He lost in the final to Henson. That was his third straight finals lose, once as the #3, once as the #2, once as the #1. Lou Rosselli (Edinboro) was the #2 seed. He lost in the semis to Henson. -

So Henson was 30-0 or so going into NCAAs and was only the 3 seed? Who was ahead of him? -
Here is a summary Michael Pettis, a finance professor at Peking University and a seasoned observer of China's economy, offers a critical analysis of China's structural economic challenges, particularly focusing on the nation's consumption paradox and the complexities of its trade relationships. The Consumption Paradox Pettis identifies China's weak domestic demand as a central issue, emphasizing that the country's economic growth has been predominantly driven by investment rather than consumption. Despite China's robust manufacturing sector, household consumption remains disproportionately low. This imbalance stems from the distribution of income within the economy, where households receive a smaller share of GDP compared to businesses and the government. Such a distribution suppresses consumer spending, as households have less disposable income.South China Morning Post+1South China Morning Post+1Reddit Challenges in Rebalancing the Economy Addressing this imbalance is complex. Increasing household income would necessitate reducing the shares allocated to businesses or the government, which could face political and economic resistance. Moreover, strategies like raising wages or interest rates to boost household income might undermine China's manufacturing competitiveness, which relies on low labor costs and cheap credit. Similarly, appreciating the renminbi to enhance household purchasing power could make exports less competitive. Thus, the low consumption share is not merely a policy oversight but a fundamental component of China's current economic model.Financial TimesReddit Implications for Trade and Global Dynamics Pettis also discusses the global ramifications of China's economic structure. The reliance on exports due to suppressed domestic consumption contributes to trade imbalances, particularly with countries like the United States. He argues that these imbalances are not solely the result of trade policies but are deeply rooted in domestic economic structures.Furthermore, Pettis critiques the dominant role of the U.S. dollar in global trade, suggesting that such a monopoly is unsustainable and contributes to global financial instability.Wikipedia+1South China Morning Post+1Financial TimesFinancial Times+3South China Morning Post+3South China Morning Post+3 Conclusion In summary, Pettis underscores the need for China to rebalance its economy by enhancing household consumption. However, such a shift would require significant structural reforms, challenging entrenched interests and the existing growth model. The path to a more balanced and sustainable economic framework involves complex trade-offs and a reevaluation of both domestic policies and international trade dynamics.

AngryBirds? To this day, one of the funniest things I've seen was in the WBs, I'm watching with my HS coach and a few other people and he taps me on the shoulder and points at Tom and Jerry and one is just yelling at the refs and the other grabs him and pulls him back and then HE starts yelling at the refs and then the first one who was yelling and who's brother grabbed him, now he grabs his brother and he starts in on the refs again. This went on no fewer than 10 times. Tom and Terry taking turns trying to pull the other away while yelling at the ref. Just...perfect. And it was like a well choreographed sketch...but not one.

Ya sure. But can any of them play the London?

And the future Hodge... I voted for him, but I realized...the board cares not for future accomplishments! I've been told it's immaterial if Ferrari and McEnelly go on to win 7 titles between them, it does nothing to add to how impressive Starocci was this year... In all honesty, I almost gave it to Mcllravy as he seems underrated to me. Maybe that's because he doesn't seem like he's mentioned among the greats often enough...but you persuaded me. The same people who'll talk about Pins will talk about how HWTs just "fall over onto their back." Ergo, HWT isn't as impressive. Also, putting Greco accomplishments in there may skew it for me a bit, but not a ton. -
That's a really good point about the IOC wanting to keep sports distinct. Judo de-emphasized leg shots because the Olympic committees didn't want it to be too much like wrestling. Karate tried to focus on Kata and hand strikes to distinguish itself from Taekwondo. Grappling/BJJ would probably need to make changes to their sport, among other things, or have Judo and freestyle modify or de-emphasize takedowns, chokes, armlocks, and other aspects of their disciplines to be considered for inclusion in a future Olympics. Not that they would necessarily want to. There's a whole other discussion to be had about the way sports become watered-down due to whatever requirements are needed to be an Olympic sport vs. the benefits that the Olympics bring.
